Copy Bible Verse Using MS Word Styles

I searched and couldn't find this issue. I thought I might have asked about it, but I can't find the post so I guess not.

I used to use the CBV tool to copy verses to MS Word with a special formatting style for Bible verses. Now, when I copy it, instead of pasting with that style, it pastes in that style but then quickly changes to the current style for that insertion point in MS Word. Below is my copying style.

I changed nothing and this started to happen maybe in version 36 of Logos.

%HeaderStyle = Quote
%ForEachVerseStyle = Quote
%FooterStyle = Quote

Other users have expressed the same issue over the years, but I have never experienced success with a style in CBV even though I Keep Source style after pasting.

Bump because I got no response. Now that I'm running the stable release, I hope someone will take a look at this issue and tell me if I'm doing something wrong if see if this is a bug in version 37. It's been present since beta came out.

What do you mean with"when I copy it, instead of pasting ? Are you using the commands / buttons available in the CBV tool? are you using ctrl-C to copy and then ctrl-V to paste ?

The "then quickly changes to the current style for that insertion point in MS Word" may indicate that there is a problem with your MS Word "Quote" style, perhaps it is missing in the style definitions in your Word document and therefore Word reverts to the "Normal" or some other Word style which the document uses in that paragraph?

Below is my copying style.

Your set of parameters is missing the closing tag for Header section. It also has no ... in the ForEachVerse section. The Footer section has empty space between curly { ... }, there seems something missing and the placeholder brackets should be in [ ].

Some thoughts and observations ... perhaps testing a bit along these lines will get you closer to it working properly again.

Please note: I am not running the beta on this PC, but a stable L37.1 and MS Word 2016 in Win 10; and I have not encountered this problem when using a CBV style that uses Word styles to format Scripture reference and verse text as you seem to want to do.

I'm using CBV, so I mean the Copy Button. I'm sorry. I thought that was self-explanatory since my question was about the CBV tool.

I thought about that, but nothing changed in Word. This problem began the moment I installed version 37 and not before. So the only change was version 37 beta at the time and now stable version 37 of Logos.

I tried to change to a different Word style to test your thought that it might be an issue with Word. But this still happens. If fixed the paragraph markers. I'm not a coder so I was copying and pasting from another built in style in the CBV tool and got it to work the way I wanted a long time ago through trial and error. But then in version 37 something changed and broke my style.

Thanks for the help. Maybe someone else will have an idea for me.

thanks for the further note and clarification.

I use the tool frequently, but really only use the "copy and paste" button ... and it works as desired and uses the assigned Word styles.

BUT when I now tried to just use the "copy" button and then the "ctrl-v" to paste into Word, the assigned Word styles are not used and instead the paragraphs use the "standard" Word style.

Thus, it appears that this functionality of assigning Word styles in the CBV tool definitions only works as expected with the "copy and paste" button function. The "copy" button function possibly has a bug in that it does not interpret that style assigning part of the CBV tool definition.

I get the same result regardless of which button I use in CBV.

Would you mind pasting your text from your paste to word style in CBV?

The CBV definition text is listed in the screenshot above at the top. Is this to what you were referring with text in CBV?

I just entered the reference Eph 1:1-3 and selected the ESV as my Bible version and after that clicked on the "copy and paste" button. This produced the Eph 1:1-3 sample showing the verse text in italics, the whole passage indented at the left, no extra line spacing between subsequent verses, etc.

When I use the "Copy" button, the passage is copied to the clipboard and I then need to use ctrl-v to paste it into the Word Document which then produces the second Eph 1:1-3 sample showing Word "standard" style. For some reason the CBV definition lines assigning a Word style style (%HeaderStyle= , %ForEachVerseStyle= , %FooterStyle, etc.) seem to be ignored when clicking "Copy" and therefore that information is not copied to the clipboard and therefore not pasted to the Word document.
