Counseling Guide Questions
Been playing around the Counseling Guide and I have a few questions.
- Is there a list of all counseling topics that I can browse within logos? Trying to guess what topics might be there by typing random letters or words into the search box is getting tiring.
- Searching this forum I found an old thread that has raised another question for me ('New in Logos 9: Counseling Guide' - https://community.logos.com/forums/p/194964/1129316.aspx#1129316). There is a screenshot showing a ''Summary' of the counseling topic, which is not showing up in my search of the same topic. Why is this? Is it a feature that was removed?
My current search results on the same topic (below), no summary.
- The same thread also lists a bunch of resources that start with 'Biblical Counseling Keys.' What are they? I can't seem to find them on logos' website.
- Lastly, the Logos 10 Counseling Feature Upgrade lists a few things that I have no idea it's referring to. For example, it 'helps you prepare for, document, and track biblical conversations' and 'find or create applicable homework assignments.' I can't seem to find any tools or features related to this. https://www.logos.com/product/229973/logos-10-counseling-feature-upgrade
Any help with these questions would be appreciated!

That's odd - I see the summary (below). What version are you on? I am on Verbum Mac 22.0 beta 4, but I don't remember seeing anything about this being added back in, in the latest beta. All I can thin of until the experts chip in, is delete the Counseling Topic section from your guide ('x' on the right), then click the 'Add' button top right of the pane and add it again?

Hmmm, gave that go with no joy. Sorry Don!
As for what I'm currently running, its Logos Bible Software 10.1 SR-3 with all Logos 10 features.

The nearest thing to a list I have seen is at https://flcommsrvrfrmswus2.blob.core.windows.net/forums/CommunityServer.Components.PostAttachments/00/01/12/99/15/hierarchy-ct-cleaned.htm?sv=2021-08-06&se=2022-12-22T12%3A41%3A50Z&sr=b&sp=r&sig=InV0iuWfq2CDnF54uMCtlzKfSitIUVZZi6x9e4Bh864%3D

The summary for that topic is drawn from the resource The Quick-Reference Guide to Biblical Counseling: Personal and Emotional Issues
Do you own, have you downloaded, that resource?

They were available individually or in https://www.logos.com/product/45345/hope-for-the-heart-biblical-counseling-library but this is currently marked as not available to purchase.

Thanks for posting that list Graham. For anyone else reading, MJ has been able to replicate the list within Logos via a factbook search - https://community.logos.com/forums/t/212873.aspx
And for the summary, I don't have the Quick Reference Guide resource. Are you sure that's where its pulling the information or is it just linking the resource? If it is pulling from its summary from the resource, am I able to change that or prioritize a different resource for the summary?
And thanks for the info regarding the Biblical Counseling Keys [Y]

Yes, the summary information is pulling from this resource: https://www.logos.com/product/43237/the-quick-reference-guide-to-biblical-counseling. If you don't own it, this is why you don't see the summary.
EDIT: No, you can't change the resource that the counseling guide is pulling from. However, this Counseling Essentials package has all of the Counseling Quick-Reference guides that fill out the summary section of the counseling guide.

Thanks Kiyah for confirming that, and for the links [Y]

Still keen to see if anyone knows about the feature upgrade items might be.
Also, I've created a request on feedback for a list of all counseling themes within logos. https://feedback.faithlife.com/boards/logos-desktop-app/posts/list-all-available-counseling-themes-topics

I'm seeing the same thing now.
Apologies - I don't have another link for this.

Reviving an old thread...
Today there is a counseling guide, but no menu or TOC. Why is that? If you have entries, surely there is a TOC.
Via Factbook you can find counseling themes. But this list is not comprehensive and is also confusing. Why not have a ready made TOC for the counseling guide?

I am confused. The counseling guide is a curated list of links mainly in your library on a particular counseling topic. The section headers collapse to form a TOC of:
- heading
- books from your library
- counseling topic
- dictionaries
- journals
- lectures
- monographs
- passages
- related counseling topics
- web resources
- bookstore.
What are you wanting in to TOC. Admission: I never use this particular guide.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I might be confused. I was looking for a list of topics, thinking that the counseling guide would only work with certain key words. For example, if I type in "People" nothing happens.
If I type in "money" I only get information under counseling topic and it is very little.
If I type "anxiety", then I get results. So I was looking for a list of topics (TOC) more than (e.g., Guilt; Anxiety; Burnout)

Okay, I can point you in the right direction but the answer may be incomplete.
- Open Factbook
- Open the left side bar
- In the drop down input box select Counseling Theme
- expand the items below and I think you'll find what are legal values.
There are probably better approaches, but I have few resources in this area.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I learned about this recently. Just thought it strange that this is not in the counseling guide.

None of the guides e.g. the sermon guide by topic, the topic guide, etc. have a comprehensive list of possible entries built into the guide.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Didn't realize that. Thanks.
