Minimizing Highlighting tool

I'm sure I've asked this before, but is there a way to minimize the highlighting tool?

The highlighting tool takes up space and instead of always opening it, it would be a nice idea if we could minimize it to free up screen space. I know you can drag and minimize, but that's not an option.

Something like the arrow at the bottom of the Toolbar when it is to the left of your work.

No. However, you can move the tab elsewhere. I put my "skinny" panels on the right hand side grouped together.

The other option is to assign shortcuts keys to your most-used highlights. I’ve assigned “y” to yellow, “r” to red, etc so that I just select the text and use the key to highlight it.
This way, I rarely even open the highlighting tool.

    I do that too. [:)]

I do keep the highlighting panel open all the time simply because I prefer not to have those skinny panels messing up my layout when I open those tools.

same here. I rarely use keyboard keys (aside from ctrl-c, -v and -f), but I use them for highighting. Moreover, the last-used highlights come up in the selection menu, so no need to use the highlighting tool except in rare cases.

    Sorta.

You can open the HL tool in a floating window. If you position it slightly off to one side, it goes behind the main window when it is not in focus; when you need it, you just click on it and it's back in front, in focus.

Ya, that's what I kind of figured. However in reading the replies I too have some keyboard shortcuts. L for large, 1 for Bold text etc. I think I'm going to use the suggestion of floating the highlight tool, making it smaller by dragging the corner and then positioning it to a part of my open layout.

    Thanks.
