Tap to Select: Anyone Else Really Struggling With This Feature?

Of all the changes Logos has ever introduced, to me the most difficult to get used to (and honestly most frustrating) is the relatively recent ‘tap to highlight’ feature.

Generally when I have the impulse to touch the screen of my mobile device it is not my intention to highlight anything. My reason for touching the screen is typically either to get the menu to appear, or to scroll down/turn the page.

Needless to say, I have to cancel the highlight almost every single time it pops up. I honestly find this the most frustrating thing I have yet encountered with Logos, and it makes me reticent to use the mobile apps anymore. No other mobile reader apps that I’ve used function this way, and I find it breaks up my reading and concentration each time I try to read on it.

So, my question is, does anyone else have issues with this feature like I do? Is there any way to turn off this feature? Not trying to be negative - but it is honestly extremely frustrating each time I use it.

Thanks all.

I'm probably repeating.  But yes;  I withdrew my membership in the Logos Mobile Society on that very feature.  I think it's .... yes, a bit excessive, but ... stupid.

But after months of savings (reduced Society dues in the form of product purchases, replaced by Kindle purchases), I've concluded that its purpose is to force 'users' to highlight sentences. This is so that Logos.com can put the most frequent ones on the product pages.

Or alternatively stated, dream on, regarding any change.  They won't be able to even 'option' it, since 'users' will quickly option it, like other poorly designed features.

I guess we're all a bit different. I like the feature!

I have it happen occasionally and find it frustrating when it occurs. But it hasn't stopped me from using mobile.

Once I got used to the behavior I found I really like the Tap to Highlight feature. I take a lot of notes, and the ability to scroll through note titles associated with a verse rather than trying to accurately tap on a string of tiny note icons is a life saver for me. If I want to zero in on just a single word I just use a long press.

    Hi Liam,

I totally share your frustration! (By the way, I would call this "Tap to Select" rather than "Tap to Highlight," because it doesn't immediately highlight the text, but it automatically selects the whole sentence or verse and be ready for you to take further actions such as highlight, copy, share, translate, take notes, search, etc).

I strongly advocate for giving users options: When tapping the screen, Logos should:

    a) Select the current sentence or verse

    b) Select the current word only

    c) Show or hide the menu bars

    d) Do nothing

As a minimum, allow customers the option to turn it off. Which they chose not to do.  Bye, bye.

My experience is the same as PL, and not that of Liam. It is a "Tap to Select" feature. And there are lots of options that come up below the "selected" verse or sentence, which makes this feature awesome for me. (I've had no problem using my fingers to scroll if needed. I guess it is figuring out how much pressure to put on the screen)

The first row of the options is commonly used highlights features.

The second row in my case is Copy (2nd most used), Share, Note (which I use the most), Search, Compare, and if you scroll to the right, I see Passage Guide, Exegetical Guide, Clippings etc. Maybe, others have different options that show up based on their usage.

The third row seems to be context-based Factbook entries.

Having these options allows me to read and take Notes using just one hand - especially useful for me since I am reading while walking to the train station and while standing in the train.

Ah that's interesting.. hmm. I can't imagine another reason for the feature actually - considering I've never seen it before on any other reading apps (and I dabble in lots of them). Hoping that's not the case, but it seems a strange thing to just try out and spring on everybody if it wasn't made for this purpose.

I do not highlight or take notes within Logos at all. On the mobile app I would very much appreciate restoration of easier access to menus and windows rather than having to struggle to hit a tiny space at the top of the screen with my fingers that aren't even that fat.

To me this feature smacks very much of simplifying (a/k/a "dumbing down") the app because "well, most users use it this way, therefore all users must use it this way."

Ah yes ‘tap to select’ is a better description of the issue. If I could edit the title of this post I would.

Personally, I don't do highlights...but when I want to dive down on a word... I double tap. Works great for me.

This feature has been nixed in the last couple weeks, and I am rejoicing!

The Logos App now behaves like any other reader app when the screen is tapped! Hurray!

I haven't checked it yet, but if true, this is indeed good news.
