Please add this -- it would be helpful when printing our sermons, especially.

Agreed, I often want to know what I am quoting, citing etc and want to be able to have this available without interfering with the main text.

Would this meet your needs? https://feedback.faithlife.com/boards/logos-desktop-app/posts/create-a-bibliography-from-sermon-document

@phil-gons Perhaps yes; I am not sure I understand correctly, but I am not referring to the sermon document as a bibliography, but maybe containing one. That would help, though footnotes, perhaps endnotes are better suited for sermons. Bibliography I tend to think of more in connection with academic papers (which, by the way, would be good to be able to write in Logos, rather than an external word processor).

@familia-furus-39, do you want footnotes merely for citations or do you want to put content there that you won't actually use in your sermon but may want to share for those who want to dig deeper?

@phil-gons For sermons, the latter. At the moment I am delivering printed sermons to folks, and it would be good and right to indicate with a footnote where the quote comes from, but not in the sermon body. Does that make sense?

Make it possible to have footnotes and/or endnotes so that all copied quotes etc., will automatically reference the resource used for further reference at a later date.
  • Yes, this would be a great addition. I would rather have endnotes created for the material I copy from within Logos so that the body of the sermon is not cluttered with source information. It would also be helpful to manually create endnotes as a way to cite sources outside of Logos as well.

I think footnotes/end notes would be more helpful than a bibliography. The latter only says which sources I've used, but if I want to make sure that I note a specific idea came from a specific place in a specific resource, footnotes or endnotes would be better
  • I also would like to see the addition of the footnote to sermon builder.

This would be extremely helpful. I often cite works that I don't have in my Logos library and have to manually create footnotes for them. If I could add a footnote automatically similarly to the way one can in Word that would be a huge enhancement for me.
  • Agree with the above.  A problem with the current structure is that footnotes - which I never read out loud - end up being included in word count/time estimates which, if a sermon is heavier on quotes/source material, makes these numbers not as helpful benchmarks as they usually are.

Chiming in as well. In my sermons, I often include ideas from other resources like commentaries (both in and out of Logos). I would love to attribute these sources: both for sharing the sermons with proper attribution, and for personal reference so that in the future I can explore the thought further if I would like. My sermon docs are pure manuscripts, so anything that I don't plan to say out loud gets cut (and I think that's ideal). These references would allow me to keep a nice, uncluttered version of my manuscript in the sermon doc. I am also thinking that the lack of citations could create plagiarism issues if I repurposed my sermon content in a published resource (e.g., repackaged in an academic paper).

It'd also be great if these references did not count toward the word count in the sermon doc.
  • Really would love this. When we do sermon discussions after the fact, I would like to be able to include sources without cluttering up the sermon space itself.

Please add footnotes to Sermon Builder.  A vital part of any sermon (speech, talk, etc.) is being about to cite one's sources.  Without that ability, an accusation of plagiarism is too easily made.  Logos already provides footnoting when copying from Logos and pasting into Microsoft Word.  It makes no sense that the same would not happen in Sermon Builder.
  • Agree! Please please create an independent (not Logos sources only) footnoting capability.
  • Yep, I really can't switch from Word to Sermon Builder until they get endnotes right. It’s critical.

Please! Just had one last week where I cited that Jesus fulfilled 300 prophecies during his ministry. I wanted to save the source in my sermon but didn’t like putting the link in the manuscript.

Agreed. Footnotes really clutter the sermon where endnotes would still serve the (necessary) purpose.

Inserting endnotes and/or footnotes is a core functionality for word processing applications. It certainly seems that should also be the case for the Sermon Builder.

I agree. Endnotes would be great, both for material quoted from Logos books and for quotes, etc that are found in other resources.

Add footnotes or endnotes to sermon builder, that way when the sermon is exported to Word, clippings from commentaries are properly cited.

Please add footnotes/endnotes to Logos Sermon builder ASAP. Many thanks!
  • Having a footnote ability would be superb when I want to provide a handout with reference texts footnoted for further study. I can, of course, type out all the references in the body, but that becomes too clunky for teaching. Of all the capacities I wish SB had, this is the highest.

I too would use this often.

It would be nice of the sermon editor had more features for editing text.
For instance, it would be great if we could use Footnotes for quotes or ideas to remind us where we got them.

It would be extremely beneficial to have footnotes available in the Sermon Builder. This allows pastors to keep a more efficient record of sources they use in the sermon. We want to encourage pastors to cite these vs plagiarizing others.
