Dark mode..
Here is my challenge, James. Is dark mode right for me?? What if we get it + it does not suffice?
What I want is a medium grey background. This would, ideally, be darker than the darkest available for the app; I use it , but would like a darker dark.
You left out the third condition which I and many others are in - I cannot read dark mode. Period.
There should be a picker. You can pick whatever you like. Even medium grey 😂
If we are listing background colors - put me down for Sepia…. Feels more natural reading-wise for my eyes.
Me too. My eyes go all funky when I try to read in dark mode. How did I use my first 286 computer where the font was always white on black? I guess my eyes and my brain were over 30 years younger then…
I think since Logos Desktop and Mobile app have dark mode, they should also launch dark mode for forum and app.logos.com.
Noir extension for Safari works pretty well for the forums! And it changes based on your OS's light/dark mode!
That's rather impressive. Thank you for sharing https://getnoir.app with our members.
You ever hear of themes? I created 100's of forums in the past, used to be a hobby of mine. You can easily make a dark mode and have it inter changeable as a theme. We don't need to all suffer for a few to live. :) Everyone can be happy.
Why cant I delete this?
I am jealous, I do not own a mac to use safari.
Jason, can you just add a dark mode theme that we can change if users don't like it? I was looking into this for my iPhone and it cost money.
There would be an option to use either dark or light. You guys never used forums before and it really shows.
again, you could have the 2 options like in logos, do you even use logos? did you know you can change from dark to light mode? … 😯
agreeed! just give us options, I pay a lot of money to use this platform. everyone is happy this way and no one feels left out, I am assuming this is built with phpbb+ so its not hard to just add a dark theme and give members the ability to change it in settings.
@James Johnson, Dark Mode is on the list of features to review and hopefully add. Thank you!
It's crazy that you need to "review" this. Give us dark mode or give us death ! lol 🤣
Like @MJ. Smith I can’t read dark mode and don’t use it in any apps. For me, sorting out being able to filter unread posts in the forums is a far better use of the available resource.
On behalf of a user who had trouble understanding why I personally never use black mode and why I bypass posts that use it. It is not anything against black mode. It is quite simply, I can't read it and know that others have the same problem. I think of the issue as similar to colorblindness - something that the UI designer has to take into consideration.
Users who may have difficulty with dark modeApproximately 47% of users may experience issues with dark mode due to astigmatism. People with astigmatism can find it harder to read white text on a black background because of the halation effect, which causes a blurred appearance around words.Users who prefer or require dark modeWhile there isn't a specific percentage for users who require dark mode due to blue light eyestrain, we can infer some information:About 82% of smartphone users use dark mode in 2024. This suggests a high preference for dark mode, though not necessarily due to eyestrain.70% of software professionals globally find dark mode easier for coding over extended periods. This indicates a significant preference among those who spend long hours looking at screens.59% of people who frequently use devices with bright white screens complain of issues like dry eyes, irritation, and visual impairment. This group might benefit from dark mode to reduce these symptoms. It's important to note that while dark mode can help reduce blue light exposure and glare, it isn't universally better for everyone's eyes. The best approach is to offer users a choice between light and dark modes, as individual preferences and needs vary.

Interesting. I have astigmatism and never associated it with difficulty reading in Dark Mode. Guess that explains it.
For non-surfing-safari types… (sing the song!)… Firefox's Dark Reader Extension makes the glare go away. #somuchbetter https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/
I like the idea of having a choice between light and dark modes for the forums. I'm interested to see how they will implement it, if they do.
I, too, would like to see an option for dark mode. For me, there is too much glare from a light or white background. I usually always select dark mode when it's available.
Don't be silly. It will be optional.
MJ's comment is not silly to the objective reader, but informatory.
Same here.
For me, the question is completely wrong. It is not dark or bright. But should it have a dark mode option or not.
Many websites have now the option to stay in dark, bright or it switches with the OS.
@Fabian, I'm with you on that! We would certainly allow the choice to remain for our community members and site users. Unfortunately, the enhancement is not as simple as one may think and we would need to slate the development (and continued development) of an additional theme. Please know that we've heard the requests, but at the moment we cannot prioritize a dark mode. In the meantime, Safari and Chromium extensions might be very simple means to accomplish dark mode as depicted in this thread above.
A note for you and others: if there are specific areas of the site (e.g. the sidebar, which will be filled before too long) that can be improved to help mitigate frustrations, please do point those out to us.
All that said, we do have other additions and improvements to the community that are in the works and feedback and suggestions from all are encouraged.
