I'm waiting for the forums to settle in. I cheated on the usergroup to forum change because there was an overlap and I waited to the last minute to make the switch. But, I'm not seeing tagging getting more common - not even mobile vs desktop. Nor am I seeing suggestions in the feedback portions. And I am seeing < 20% of the readership on the tips of the day. Any guesses as to why the new forums are slow to settle down to a pattern? Any ideas on how to model "best practices"?

Tagging is hit and miss. Maybe an intermediary pop up when someone posts to select tags as the final step⁉️

How do you track this?
One issue may be that everything is thrown into one forum called English now (except betas) and the user needs to use tags to direct his/her post to the proper group/category. These tags are the last thing at the bottom of the post entry box that many may not pay enough attention to. One problem I see is that App types are mingled with what I would call subject tags (Notes,Bug,Features). Folks may only apply one tag for Bug, and forget or not see the App tag causing their post to go to the wrong group.
If posters were required to first enter the device type from one list then required to enter a subject tag from a separate list, it might help. Just a thought.

I didn't think you were right, until I just tested it … no tags are fine. But earlier I posted and it demanded tags. So 'somewhere', thread creation demands tags.

You can't force people to tag, I've seen it before, if you make it mandatory the majority of them choose random tags.
If traffic is down then readership and suggestions could be a result of that.
It seems easy to find the discussion forum, which could explain why most activity is concentrated there.
It is possible that the bounce rate off the forum homepage has increased significantly
If we had more data for traffic and movement, and for comparison, we could make better speculations.
It's likely that whilst getting used to the new forum the focus of behaviour is drawn to that, and away from more practical tasks.

Vanillaforum is pretty accurate with tracking "real" views by real people. Maybe the old forums were counting bot visits as views too?
Entirely possible, especially due to the age of the older forum software. Something like that would explain the potential reduction in real traffic, not the possible perceived reduction in activity. There did seem to be a large community of lurkers in the old forum.
