purchased book disappeared

Years ago I purchased D.A. Carson's, "Justification and Variegated Nomism". I glanced through it and then pinned it to my toolbar meaning to get back to it later. I never really got back to… maybe opened it once or twice over several years, but there it was… still stuck to my toolbar. Some time back I figured it was time to clean up my toolbar and removed it.

This morning I was watching an NT Wright talk and he mentioned the book. So I went to Logos to open it, but it's not in my library. I pulled up my order history, and I can't find it in my order history either.

Has this kind of thing happened with anyone else? I know I purchased it, but I can't prove it. For years, I continually found the word "variegated" odd and interesting — it stuck out to me at purchase and then every time I reviewed the icons on my toolbar. So, it's not (for me) an easily confused book title. Also, I delete my emails after they are a few years old, so I now have no way to prove I purchased it.

I haven't seen anyone reporting anything similar - and I've just checked and I still have the book in my library.

Couple of things to try:

Enter the command update resources in the command box - this causes Logos to check what you have in your library with what their records say you should have and adds anything that is missing
Contact Logos customer services and see if they can check whether the book is linked to your account

Thanks Graham. I tried the Update Resources command, but that didn't do much that I could see. I keep my full library on my hard drive at all times in any case. At least it doesn't sound like an issue with the book itself. I will contact customer service.

Did you purchase the book(s) individually or as part of a Library? (If as part of a Library, that would explain why you can't find it in your order history.)

Have you verified at the Logos store that both volumes are not owned by you and require purchase?

I think it may also be helpful to consider the possibility that your memory is serving you imperfectly. After all, the above set is split into two volumes. If you had an interest in the writing, you likely would have purchased or considered purchase of both. Perhaps you have in your library a book that in title or content is quite similar to Carson's.

You should still be able to find it in your Order History at Logos.com if you purchased it (Logos.com, click on your picture, and select "Order History"). The other place that's worth checking is in your hidden books (click on the three-dot menu on the main toolbar on the bottom left or top right, select "Program Settings" and check hidden books at the bottom of the page).

Thanks for that tip. I found out I did have a second account under another email / login, but there is no history on it.

No, I didn't make any notes… at least none that I can find. I cleanup old notes just a few months ago, but I don't recall seeing it then either.

I talked to customer service and they were unable to find anything. I suspect they only have a little more detailed information than what I have through the Order History under my account. I checked for notes, hidden books and also another account (found I did in fact have another account with another email address as login ID, but there is no history or purchases on that account).

One comment suggest I could be mis-remembering. I appreciate that that seems like the most likely scenario. However, I know I had the book. Like I mentioned in the earlier post, at the time of my purchase, the words "variegated nomism" sounded so lofty that I remembered the title. And, I saw the title frequently after pinning the book to my toolbar (which I did so that I'd remember I purchased it instead of forgetting about it.) After years of having it pinned to my toolbar and not getting back to it, I decided some time ago to remove it from my toolbar, but I still remembered the words in the title, "Variegated Nomism".

Finally, I searched my library for Carson, Variegated, Nomism with no hits. (searched each term individually)

My last thought is to see if I have an old laptop at home or work with logos installed that might still show it in the toolbar. I'll follow up if by chance I do happen to prove my case.

Did you visit the link I shared to view the item within the Logos store? These two volumes are present in many different Library packages. If you can show that you own one of the libraries in which it is present that should solve your problem.

Another possibility to consider is that you never owned the book, but rather had temporary access to it. Temporary access can be granted to various resources for various reasons, including membership of a subscription, course, or group. Being as you rarely accessed the resource, it could have sat on your toolbar for years even after your temporary license expired.

I understand that you are asserting that you have memories of making the actual purchase (though I'm still not sure which volume of Carson's work you remember purchasing, or if you recall purchasing both volumes), but to answer your original question, I do not recall others reporting of owned resources disappearing from their library other than one instance, but that was later proven to be a misunderstanding.

As previously suggested, is there a chance you purchased this two volume set as part of a Platinum, Diamond, or higher level legacy set? They are not available in lesser legacy sets.
