Why are there horizontal lines in the scroll bar to the right of the text? I don't know how they got there.

I'm having a problem with using Study Assistant with my Premium Subscription. When I attempt to ask a question the spacebar function doesn't work. All the words appear without spaces. Is there a preference function to correct this?
