I am annoyed at this "stupid" tool

  1. I was asked to state what resources in the Lutheran packages caught my attention.
  2. I crafted an answer using a link to the Logos product page to identify the product
  3. I try to post and am informed I do not have the authority to provide those links.
  4. I discover there is no option that I can find to remove the links.
  5. I retype the titles and remove the offending links
  6. It now refuses to update AND fails to produce a message
  7. I try to exit the message with a browser back
  8. It now insists that I have to authorize my log-in
  9. I reopen the thread
  10. I hit reply and paste my message into the response box
  11. I hit enter post and it now takes.

My patience gave out at about step 3.

Creating a post/comment here is not always a smooth process. Indeed, there are times when it feels much like the forums are fighting against me. But I've heard that Vanilla forums have quite the reputation regarding bugs.

Can you tell me more about this? How are you being informed and what issue are you being presented with there? Also, are these links to products on our Logos website?

JASON, you have got to make this process work better. Thank you.

JASON, MJ has given y'all an improvement opportunity. Linking a Product Page produces this cluster mess? Time to get busy stoking the interest in positive change.

I see no way someone like myself could do what MJ did.

My desire for instructions on this Community first needs the site to work properly - then how to procedures can happen.

You can't see me shaking my head, but I surely am!!!

Specifically, I often have trouble with the @name functionality, especially on my Android mobile. Also, I often have to fight the forums wanting to tack on extra letters to the beginning of my comments on Android mobile. In general, the experience is smoother on Windows than on my Android phone (which, admittedly, is beginning to show its age).

I get the feeling external links can 'time out' on conversion to active links. I just posted one like that.

Well, now I feel slightly less incompetent. If MJ can't make the new forums work smoothly, then no one can. (Of course, she was trying to do something more sophisticated than I've attempted so for - hence the "slightly".)

I have reported it before IIRC - building a link to the logos bookstore creates an error message - first for each entry it builds a no response message, then for the whole message the red text You don't have the authority. The first symptom is that it creates a simple link, rather than the box. Unfortunately, I can't recreate it on demand although it behaves exactly the same way it time it happens; it never happens with 3rd party sites, only with logos.com. It was the inability to fix it without starting over completely that annoyed me most.

Yes, the links are to Logos product pages - without any query stuff at the end.

What issue(s)? A correct post will not post, cannot be corrected, gives meaningless messages of the links not correcting … Note that a copy and paste (with links removed) into a new response box works just fine.

I'm still trying to figure out how to mark all posts read so that I may start from scratch and not deal with posts from before the new forum system. I am only interested in scanning new posts since the last time I visited the forum, so when I finished reading items of interest, I always marked all posts read on the old forum. I sure miss that option and the lack of a way to mark all posts read makes the new forum ungainly. Every other forum I work with has an option to mark all posts read and an option to list unread posts only. These two options really make checking for new items of interest very easy.

One more huge improvement: Make the font color difference between the read and unread posts very noticeable. There is a difference now, but it is so subtle that most of the time I am unable to take advantage of the distinction.

@Joseph Sollenberger Yes! This is something I have asked for multiple times and would love to see implemented.

With both the forums and the website, I've matured from thinking that the tool may be "stupid" to wondering whether I am stupid. Improvements 💪🏽😛

Forbidden Links: I have not been able to reproduce errors around sharing links to any of our products. I'll see if there are others internally who are having similar issues.

New/Read Colors: I do recall this has been mentioned in the past, and I've submitted a request to see what capabilities we have here.

Mark All Read: There is not means to "Mark All Read" and this is something that developers are actively considering. I hope that progress with the last point will alleviate this one.

Android Mobile: I have seen a few users mention Android mobile browser giving them trouble. I'll start an investigation with Android mobile users, but the more specific we can get the better. At the moment, mobile OS keyboards are adding additional characters and tagging other community members is difficult.

I tried to reproduce these bugs right now on my Android mobile and was unsuccessful. I'll try to catch them as they happen and take specific notice as to surrounding circumstances.
