- First try, on if a Bible reference changed the search type - result crash
- Second try, on where Joshua's name was changed - precise search gave the answer; smart search threw in a couple of unrelated results
- Third try, compare the results of "institute Lord's supper", "institute communion", and "institute Eucharist" (all without the quotes) … they get similar results but the difference are puzzling - try to save to passage lists only to find that doesn't work making analysis of the results difficult
- Get distracted by cat informing me it is dinner time and decide to try again tomorrow.
I need lessons in trying questions that I would never use. My experience:
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
We were coming at it from different perspectives. I was trying to test its access to tagging, so I was running searches that depended on speaker tags and topics. Then I wanted to see how it responded to concepts that Logos was unlikely to have ever used explicitly (eg "decluttering" gave a lot of passages on contentment).
I can't duplicate your experience except for a nagging cat. "Where was Joshua's name changed?" gives me Numbers 13:16 as the top result and when I typed bible:"Mark 1:5" is changed to precise and ran the search correctly. The different results for various communion terms is interesting, but it might be tied to the specific terminology in the passage.
One thing I was concerned about was whether or not implicit bias in a user's question would shape results, but searches like "sacrament of baptism" and "ordinance of baptism" give the same results. It is interesting to me as an evangelical that "qualifications for priests" showcases Timothy and Titus before Leviticus, but I think it makes sense for what many people will intend with the question.
It also works better than the old fuzzy search for finding paraphrased verses (which is not a very high bar).
The inability to save as a passage list is annoying, and you can't even drag passages from the search panel to add them manually. I hope this is a bug and not a deliberate omission.

How do we block abusive members on this new forum software? 😂

The Bible search really could be a game-changer. I searched "Paul sharing the gospel," which quickly gave me multiple places in scripture. Even as a starting point for research, I could see myself using this extensively. I'll have to try more and see how accurate it can be, but it seems incredible thus far.
@DS sorry you've hit this issue; obviously something isn't right. Can you provide a bit more detail?
- Are you seeing this issue on desktop, web, or mobile?
- Was this a one-time occurance, or does it continue to switch to Precise with the same message every time you try a Smart Bible search?
- Are you able to use other "AI-features" without issue?
Glad you think the feature is promising. Let's see if we can get you more than 12 searches!
-Ronny
@Ronny Woods (Faithlife) Desktop-only. The feature is not available on my iPad and iPhone (however I’m on beta 40 on those devices too). If I switch back to smart after the notice i get the same notice at the next attempt. Other AI features are still available (on all devices).
Edit… also I'm seeing this on the picker:
regards!

@Justin Gatlin I'm happy to hear you're enjoying this search mode! We are actively working on bringing Save as a Passage List and Print/Export to smart Bible search, it just didn't quite make the v40 cutoff.
Apologies to @DS, @Antony Brennan, and anyone else who ran into trouble testing this feature. There was a license management problem on our end — too many people joined the beta testers' group, and we ran out of available license slots. (A great problem to have!)
It's been fixed now; everyone in that group should now have a license for smart Bible search (though it does still count toward your monthly AI usage limit).
@Adam Borries (Logos) works! Thanks
a license issue of some sort

I ran into the same problem—stuck on splash screen. Tried to download for new install and now my system won't open at all because the resources and notes have been updated.
How did you successfully revert?
(I just posted requesting access to a link to re-download the Logos 40 Beta 1 file)

Logos 40 Beta 1 Mac OS 14.7.2
I had this happen. Restarted the computer. Clicked Logos in the Dock and immediately depressed the Command key. In the popup selected Work Offline. After a successful load of Logos, quit the app and restarted. It took much longer than usual, but Logos eventually loaded and now works normally.
I may not have needed all those steps, and I have no explanation as to what happened. Unfortunately, I neglected to save logs ☺️
You need to do a fresh install. It sounds like you are on macOS so in the future you'd want to navigate to this path and delete your Logos4
folder. Keep in mind, this will require you to install/index all your resources.
USER_NAME will be your local machine's user name.

@Stephen Koehn @Ryan Jones Just posted some steps above, sorry for the delay.
In some dynamic toolbar menus, there is a toggle. Previously, you used to have to click precisely on the toggle to make the change. Now, you can click anywhere in the menu's header to switch the toggle. This makes is slightly easier/quicker to make changes because you don't have to be so precise with your mouse/trackpad movements.
Now, you can click anywhere in the menu's header to switch the toggle.
@Mark Barnes (Logos) unless you're trying to turn on Multiple Book View…
Thanks so much, Mark.
Here is my ideal behavior:
If I click on the center of the menu "Interlinear", no submenu appears. Instead, the Interlinear section should appear immediately without showing any of the additional options in the submenu. This means that I can toggle on/off the Interlinear section with one click.
If I click on the "down arrow" on the right of the menu "Interlinear", then I get the additional options.
Smart Bible search is insane. What a game-changing feature. I tested things as simple as "Questions Jesus Asked" and as off-the-wall as "Should I go on a diet?" and the results were great for all of it.
