What is happening after it indexes the books?

I can see the indexer counting down as it indexes the books. Then, after it seems it is done, it continues to say "Logos Bible Software is indexing your library" for quite a while (several hours).

What is it doing during that time? (I am guessing it is organizing the new information.)

Would it be possible to have some indication of how long it will be, % finished, etc?

Once it's finished processing (and counting down) the resources, the indexer knows the position of every word in every resource. It then compresses the index file and optimises it for faster searching.

There have been a number of requests for progress reporting during this stage; while estimating the remaining time wouldn't be easy, it probably shouldn't be too hard for us to add rudimentary percentage progress reporting (which will have the beneficial effect of stopping people from terminating the process when it's almost done because it looks like it has hung).

That would be great if it can be added Bradley...

That would be a great addition. There are times when I really need the computer and will need to shut down the indexer unless it finishes very soon. If I know it is almost done I can let it finish up. As it is I have no idea and just shut it down (wasting all the indexing time it already went through).

I realize that a time indication may be very difficult (or very inaccurate), but a percent or whatever is possible would be great.

    Bradley,

I left the desktop to Index overnight with my internet modem switched off. I was confronted with Win7's "This program has stopped working"  message. When I checked the log it had gotten to the very last stage you describe. Could it have failed because of the lack of internet access? Was it possible to restart at this point because it simply re-Indexed everything when I started Logos4?

When I checked the log for B3 on my laptop I found it had run out of disk space with 80 resources to go. There was no external indication of a failure, and I might have started Logos4 only to see it start indexing again with no reason given (I presume!?). Can this be improved?
