Fonts issue with slide canvas

I really love the slide canvas option—there are so many customization features available. However, my biggest frustration is with font selection. The font options are very limited, and there's no way to add custom fonts to the list. What's odd is that when I use a regular slide, I do get access to a full range of fonts, including custom ones—but then I'm limited in how much I can customize the slide itself.
