POST YOUR DEAD LINKS HERE!!

This is THE perennial problem with Logos…you are in the midst of study, and you come to a citation or other reference link—to a resource you are certain you own—and NOTHING HAPPENS. The link doesn't work. Very frustrating, because LINKS TO RESOURCES IN YOUR LIBRARY IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY SELLING POINTS OF THE SOFTWARE.
By posting your dead links here, we can catalog and demonstrate the extent of the problem, observe when and IF the links are restored, and make the affected wheels SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKK until the grease is applied. If this thread catches on, it will swiftly become the longest thread in the forum, sad to say, but garnering attention is the whole point.

When you add your case, please create a case number in the top left (first input) and follow the number just prior to yours. Use bold print and use the format.

Thanks.

I'll go first…
The resources is…
The dead links are…
…Augustine's Confessions & Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible, both of which I have. I actually have multiple copies of Confessions (4-5 or so).
Please fix these (and any others in this resource). Thanks.

I've seen several of these. I've often wondered what happens when books are added to Logos, if already made books are re-done to link to them.
Example, if John Smith wrote Title 1, and in it he refers to Alex Smith's Title 2 in the footnotes.
Logos publishes Title 1, but at the time, Smith's Title 2 wasn't in Logos, so no links were made.
Later, Smith's Title 2 is published in Logos. Would those footnotes in Title 1 be changed to that they link to Title 2? And how would Logos even keep track of that?
Does Logos keep track of what books Title 1 refers to, so that if some of those do become Logos books later, the appropriate links can be made?

Well over a decade ago, I made the suggestion that Logos should create links FOR ALL REFERENCES AND CITATIONS at the time the new resource is being added and made digital, irrespective of whether or not the resource being cited is in the Logos stable or not. That way, if the resource is eventually required, the link is there just waiting to go live. Certainly, in the early days, when the number of resources in the stable was just a few hundred or so, many links were not created because in most cases there was nothing available to link to. Anchor Bible Dictionary was one that had very few links. I haven't used that in a while, so I don't know what it's current state is, but it is well past time for anything that has been available since the 90s and 00s to have COMPLETELY VIABLE LINKS.

This, to me, is by far the worst problem with Logos. When you buy a new resource, it's a roll of the dice as to how good the linking will be, even if it's a "research edition."
This problem vexes me most when I am reading through a book. I encounter a referene, I want to look at it, it's not linked, I move on in frustration. For books I'm reading only once, I won't ever return to them to see if it ever gets fixed or not. I just chalk it up as another incident of poor QC/Logos not delivering what they say they are going to.
Over the years, I've documented and posted about this many times on the forum. Usually I just get told different reasons as to why this really isn't a problem. 🙄

Remember there are 3 kinds of links in play here:
- Links to milestones which should never fail … but in some cases there is no link because the appropriate milestones were not created. These are the ones that annoy me the most.
- Links to different editions of the text where milestones as not appropriate. If these were erroneously linked, I would have no patience with the level of error. A compromise might be to open the resource the user has but to the title page and leave it to the user to find the same/changed/omitted text in the edition at hand.
- Links that link to nothing but are some sort of bibliographic feature that was never implemented … I don't know what was intended and therefore reserve my right to form an opinion at a later date.
I fully expect that AI and rigor will improve the situation.

The fact that no page number is include OUGHT NOT INHIBIT the creation of a link to the beginning of chapter 2. If that is a hindrance, then make it so that it isn't. Please and thank you.

The Oxyrhynchus Papyri 840 is not linked, presumably because there is no line number or some such. As with issue #000002 above (Schaff's John/Acts Comm.), FL can still open P. Oxy. to the correct document even though a specific line isn't mentioned in the citation.
I have the 15 volume & Perseus versions of P. Oxy.
Fwiw, the actual lines in 840 in view are lines 31 & 45.
Logos should be able to at least get the ball rolling by opening to the correct document (840).
