I am working on something complicated, so I decided to create a temporary layout since it was getting so crunched working with only one layout open. However, when I did so, I accidentally clicked "update active." 😧 Is there any way to undo that?
If you can, grab a snapshot (in layouts) right before you updated … if you're lucky. Depends on timing.

There is no way to undo that. You needed to do that before making changes for your temp layout. But you could use a previously saved version of the layout from Saved Layouts. A snapshot only happens if you change from one layout to another or nuke the current layout with Close All Panels.

So using the example of what had occurred, I had been working with Layout A and after making changes which I wanted to keep without editing A, I should have:

Correct. Close Active Layout (at bottom of Layouts menu) will retain the layout but remove its Saved name.Close All Panels (app toolbar) will clear/blank the layout.
Both methods will produce a Snapshot. Changing from one layout to another also produces a Snapshot

In general, you need to preserve a layout BEFORE making changes that result in a new layout i.e. save "Layout A", then make changes and then save it as "Layout B". "Save as named layout" (in Layouts menu) will "save" a layout by giving it a Name, else Update Active will update an already "saved" Layout.

It took me a minute to respond since I taught a class, and I also ran into a weird layout issue. I needed to look at ἀφίημι in the OT, which I will mention since it might matter.
I needed to review both layout A and this new layout at the same time, so I decided to accomplish this with Verbum.
So I saved the new layout in Logos as ἀφίημι in LXX, then I closed it, and re-opened layout A in Logos.
I then opened Verbum in order to open the ἀφίημι layout, but it wouldn't open as the layout seemed to be only the name. It was the same with my Luke Class.
I then closed Verbum (since my plan didn't work), closed A in Logos and opened the ἀφίημι layout. Then I closed the ἀφίημι layout and re-opened A.
Since Logos doesn't permit multiple layouts to be open at once, I had really hoped I could accomplish this with Verbum, and I am unsure what happened. I thought maybe the problem was naming it something foreign? But that didn't explain why the Luke Class also had the problem.
I am attaching a screenshot, and thank you for your help.

It is possible (and I have done it!) to open a Logos saved layout in Verbum i.e. ἀφίημι in LXX should have opened in Verbum after clicking the name as shown. The latest version should also have opened by clicking the name under Saved Layouts.
Note that I used Update active (for Laptop Beta) in Verbum just before updating Laptop Study in Logos (not strictly necessary as clicking Laptop Study would leave a Snapshot of Laptop Beta).
Thank you very much for your help and the screenshot. :) After what you said I re-opened Verbum (and ἀφίημι in LXX was still missing it's layout image to click on), so I went to the saved layouts section and it in fact did open from there. :) I will remember that the next time a layout isn't able to be opened with the preview of it.

The lack of an image is deliberate as it informs you that it was saved in another installation. Clicking the name will load the layout (as per my screenshot). If there was another instance you could load that version of the layout.
Oh, I see. Thank you for clarifying this, and that is good to know. I had assumed that it meant that it hadn't saved properly, so I am grateful to know this.
