4.0d Beta 3 (4.04.4.0607) done crashed

Updated about 10pm 6/9 using Beta channel. L4 is now kaput. Crashed upon installation and every time I tried to start it since. So now I have no Logos 4. Not sure how to back up a revision.
Have a great day,
jmac

Were you able to capture log files from the crash? If so, could you post them here?
If you try reinstalling directly from the server, does that fix it? http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/InstallerBeta/Logos4Setup.exe
If that still doesn't work, you could uninstall (via Windows), and then reinstall the latest stable version (4.0c SR-2) from here: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

(Same "Any logs?" questions as above)
If it crashes as you "Log In", can you run offline, or the same crash?
Any additional details you can offer will help Logos or others to make useful suggestions rather than guesses, and might help others with the same problem.
(Mine updated OK, with no issues, but that does not help anyone except me.)

If you see the Sign In dialogue and you have a custom installation then you are in for a bad time! But I wouldn't do any sort of installation of Beta 3 until Logos tells us that Setup is fixed.

Thanks Rosie for the reply. I don't have log files. Thanks for including the link to the latest stable version. I'll install that now.
BTW All I got was the Logos Splash screen, no sign-in screen, just the Windows crash notice, very repeatable.
I also have noticed that if you click "send report" on the crash notice, Doctor Watson will start but runs sooooo long without closing that I end up killing via task manager. I've never had a crashed program take as so long to send a report to Microsoft. I don't know if that indicates some Logos problem or not.

Well I found that the 4.0c SR-2 crashed too. I noticed that Windows did an update to .NET this week. I wonder if that has broken Logos[st]
Update: I uninstalled this week's Microsoft .NET SP-2 updates, rebooted and tried to start Logos (4.0c SR-2). Logos got to the sign-in screen this time but crashed after that. I have another program that relies extensively on .NET which continues to run ok.

Jim ~ Can you include crash logs here?
Thanks,

After uninstalling the latest .NET updates, I used Windows update to bring my computer back to the latest XP system update. Then uninstalled Logos 4 and installed it again. It still crashes after the sign-in.

You'll find instructions on logging here: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging, and on uploading the logs here: http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs.

Found out how to get crash file. Here it is. Thanks for the help.

Comparing the error in your crash log with reports in our bug database indicates the problem may be a faulty .NET installation. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling 3.5.1.

Which version of .NET does Logos 4 use?

After spending most of the afternoon researching the process, uninstalling and reinstalling .NET 3.5 SP1 and .NET 3.0, nothing about the Logos 4 crash has changed. It still crashes after log-in. [:(]

The best thing to do at this point is to contact Customer Support. Our technicians have experiencing working on these types of issues, and they can remotely connect to your computer to work on it directly if necessary. You can reach them at 800-875-6467, Mon-Fri, from 6am to 5pm Pacific time.

Just an update. I called tech support but the wait was long so during the call I had to leave. They had me uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't solve the problem. I've re-run Windows update and reinstalled .NET 3.5 again and uninstalled and deleted Logos4 again with no improvement. It crashes right after the log-in screen. For anyone helping here's the latest crash file. 7242.Logos4Crash.txt

Well, the linked discussion thread was a bit cryptic, but I uninstalled KB976769v2 aka .NET 3.5 SP-2 update and Logos 4 is now downloading resources which seems to indicate that it is going to work![Y]
So if this situation can be generalized, it appears that the latest update, SP-2 for .NET 3.5 causes Logos 4 to crash on the latest Windows XP platform, or at least may cause it to crash.
For Logos, this relates to case number 53273.
It is going to take most of the day to download and index since I've ended up re-installing all of Logos 4.
Thanks![:)]

I am in Peru, and I downloade from the Beta Channel to get The RC of 4C before shifting to dial up and didn't think to change it. I now am on the latest Beta of 4. o d and it failed to install. What does a long distance rescue look like???

Hi James,
Are you still able to open Logos 4? If not, how far does it get, are there errors, or does it crash?
Thanks,
Melissa0 -
I'm using Windows 7. My Logos 4.0c still works but everytime it tries to download the new update to version 4.0d the Logos 4 indexer crashes. No update. Judging from your situation it's better that the update did not download!

Charlie,
Thanks for the logs. Have you ever had trouble updating or installing the past? Are you the administrator on the computer, and are you able to install Windows Updates?

Hi, Melissa....
No, I've never had a problem before. Logos has updated several times before with no trouble. Also, I have no problems with Windows Updates or with antivirus or other software updating automatically...
I am the administrator. Yes.

It appears to be having trouble with the BITS service. You might try starting the service manually, then retrying the update, or clicking the setup link here: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe.
To check the status of BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service), go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. If the status is not "Started," right click on it and choose "Start."
