Hello,
I am considering adding the BDAG to my Logos resource collection. I have this book in print and I also have it in electronic searchable format in another Bible study software package. What I am wondering is if the BDAG search facilities that were available in Logos 3 for the BDAG (see info on link: http://www.logos.com/products/details/1687 ) are included in Logos 4 or not?
Thank you,
Mike

Thanks Damian!
It appears that all of the good parts are there. [:D]
Do you know why the search fields do not show up in the BDAG resource information? Search fields there is blank. It would seem the BDAG section "About the Electronic Edition" should be revised to include L4 info.
I'm right about to update this in the wiki as of 4.0c. Search Fields for any resource are now available in a drop down menu by clicking on "All Text."

My dropdown only shows 'search fields' with nothing beneath it. My help > about says I'm using 4.0d. Also, in BDAG 'resource information' the section for search fields is blank.

You didn't perchance accidentally select the BDAG help file did you?
Sounds like you've got either bad metadata for that resource or a corrupt resource file. I see all the info in my version:
Is your "search fields" minimized?
Click on the triangle:
Does that fix it?
... or perhaps accidentally selected the BGAD?
or BAGD? [:D]

Oops [:$] See how easy it is...
I don't see an expand arrow (see below). And I don't have any previous editions of BDAG, however spelled. The support info is below - I just bought and downloaded it yesterday.

Ah. then maybe a metadata update will soon come your way. You might try restarting a couple times, if you haven't already.
You might try restarting
That did the trick. Thanks.
I want to surch Romans 5:12-21 in the entire bible how do I do it?
Blessings in Christ.

Tes, I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean "in the entire library"? Just open up a basic search and enter Romans 5:12-21 in the search field.
My quetion is, if there is any possibility to search in the entire library.
This is brilliant, I had no idea we could do this. You can search journals by author!
Yes, just like I said, but make it sure it's "All Text", not "Bible Text":
I have the exact same problem as Ken. Resource information has nothing in the "search fields section". And there are no options to select search fileds when searching the BDAG. Like Ken I also purchased the BDAG just a few days ago. However, restarting Logos (as Todd suggested to Ken) doesn't solve the issue for me.
Todd, how do you mean that metadata update may be coming? I thought buying a product always meant getting the latest version/update of the resource. Isn't that the case? Is there anyway to force a metadata update for a specific resource?
I had the same problem before I had to find out that I checked the wrong drop down field. In the example above the "All text" drop down menu opens the next level search fields.
Tes,
Your search window is for a Bible search. If you want to search your entire library then you need a "Basic search" (Click the word Basic next to the "Bible" Then you will have the option to search your entire library for a Romans reference.

The metadata isn't part of the resource file, it's descriptive data about the resource (like the info in the library window) that can be updated on the fly by Logos without a resource update.
When you download the resource for the first time, it will need to download the metadata too. But I think that it's is only picked up on restart, and you might have to restart once for the metadata to be applied. (I don't know this authoritatively, but it seems to be what happens).
Is there anyway to force a metadata update for a specific resource?
Not that I know of.
Many thanks for the explanation Todd. I didn't know that the metadata wasn't part of the resource file.
I've repeatedly tried restarting Logos but with no sucess. I've tried "Update Now", "Update Resources" and even "Sync Now" but the metadata of the BDAG are still missing. Seems like an odd thing.
Any suggestions anyone?

Hi Kevin,
You are right ,I want to search the key words in Bible ,I able to do it I have already done,it is wounderful, now my question is if I am able to search the key Words further for detail studies meaning and other diffinitions and so on ,as well. I have done like Todd did it ,I was able to search the key words in Word study too,but I have triedd to search inthe entire bible ,but was not able, that is my question.
I think I understand now. You need to click on the blue text that displays the Romans reference and then select All passages then you should be able to use the Bible search to search all of Word Study.
Kevin is it possible to you ,if you could send my by screenshot.

Tes, when you are in a search window each section of blue text indicates an option that you can change.
Thank you Kevin,I have just seen it now shortly, now I have to go to the church, you have done it excellent may God bless you.

Thank you Todd, you have brought even to a new level.I have tried to find, where I can use ''filter'' but where I have tried it was anactive ,how do I do that?
Thank you Todd I got it.

I don't. Though you could post your Logos4.log, and maybe we could find a clue in it. (http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging)

I've go a suspicion (translation: I'm not certain) that the searchable fields are not a matter of meta-data and that there is a problem with your index. Type Reubild Index into the command line and hit enter. (I don't remember if you need to restart Logos for the command to take effect)
After the index is complete check for your ability to search by Footnotes.
Kevin,
I have this same BUG!!!
The list of possible fields in BDAG showed up with the 7 or so kinds, then as I typed "the" into the box, the fields list disapeared. Now its near empty.
I have seen a related bug talked of once before but can't remember any details.

This is not a bug, but very confusing UI design. Notice there are two Find boxes. One is underneath the "All Text" dropdown menu and is still showing the grey instruction "Find" in your screenshot. The one you've typed "the" into is the Find box on top which is used merely to limit what things show up in that dropdown menu. If you'd typed something that matched one of the names of one of your highlighting styles or one of the search fields, it would have filtered the menu to show that item, but nothing matches "the". So you need to click the blue X (not the word Clear further to the right -- that clears all the checkboxes; another confusing design decision), then the Search fields will show up again, select the ones you want, click anywhere outside the dropdown menu to make it go away, so you can type your search text into the correct Find box.
This UI design has GOT to be fixed. It is way too confusing to users! I'm going to file a separate thread to report it as a problem. Not a bug, but a design shortcoming that seriously needs to be reconsidered.
This is not a bug, but very confusing UI design.
Thanks Rosie,
I went back and worked thru the steps with more care. I agree with what you say.
I think the UI needs to be changed to NOT BE CONFUSING like that. The new "Find" should not overlap the 1st "Find" and maybe one should be renamed. Maybe the 2nd one on top could be named "Filter" or "Lunch Time" or just about anything except "Find".
YUCK!
Thank you very much Kevin! Your suspicion turned out to be true, at least for me. I ran a "merge index" and "voila!" - there they were - all the searchfields. Great! Much appreciated you help!
