Study Assistant transforms Bible study by letting you ask questions in everyday language and get clear, concise answers drawn directly from resources. Instead of scrolling through search results, you can ask something like “What does the Bible say about forgiveness?” or "Who was Abraham?" and see a well-sourced response with citations. Each answer has inline citations and links that take you straight to the relevant section of the resource, and highlighted for easy reference. You can even ask follow-up questions to refine your focus or keep the conversation going.

By asking questions in plain language, you can skip complex searches and get clear, sourced answers that guide your study. Whether you’re a pastor, scholar, or everyday reader, it helps you explore Scripture more deeply and efficiently. Built on the strengths of Smart Search, Smart Synopsis, and Smart Bible Search, it stays fully grounded in resources, so you always know where your answers come from. The result is a study experience that feels less like digging through indexes and more like a conversation that sparks discovery.

This initial release is just the first iteration of Study Assistant with ongoing enhancements and additions planned for future versions.

Love it so far! Would like to see two improvements:

1) Option to search only the books I own, not all of Logos.

2) Speed. It's pretty slow, though I realize this is the first beta. Would it be faster if it was only searching my owned books?

Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far! We have plans to add a collection picker in a future release that will allow you to narrow your search to books you own.

Speed is certainly something we will want to look into. I will make sure to let the team know of the feedback on that so far.

While we wait for the collection picker, can we get the usual locked icon for books we don't own? Not clicking on unowned books will save time.

It understands questions great! Hopefully it will be improved to be more than another way for Logos to link to books I don't already own which seems to be how all of the new search AI features are bent. It feels like a non-stop commercial sometimes. Not trying to be negative but it would be nice to not have to wade through the ads to use these new features.

I mean I have 119 books tagged as gospel of Matthew subject in my library without me even looking deeper than opening the library and selecting Matthew as the subject. When I searched for topic on a passage in Matthew it gave four resources, a commentary I don't own, a study bible I don't own and two commentaries I do. So half of the return were resources I don't own. Why can we not set the resource pool to our library? Is the search pre-indexed (or something like that, I'm no programmer) to a select number of books or something?

I'm thrilled with this new feature, but on the few searches i've done, the answers can from books that I would consider basic or slightly above. I know this makes sense for those with smaller libraries, but I have a very large library and would like the search assistant to work a little harder and dig deeper in my library for the answers. also, I would appreciate being able to have a setting to be able ask for more links than 4 to be able to get a wider range of answers.

Is there a possibility of a setting for the complexity or depth of answer i'm looking for?

This is a fantastic Beta 1, and I look forward to the future of this feature.

Graham, it may be because you own a lot of books. I searched two different questions and only got one book that I owned.

I agree with Jerry and Yasmin's feedback. I would also like my chat history saved somewhere. When you hit the New button, your previous chat is completely gone.

Also, this probably won't be an issue for most people, but I get rather different answers when I input my question in different languages. I know it's probably because of the different resources offered in different languages. But I do love that I can use more than one language.

Q: When did Christians begin worshipping on Sunday?

The first Christians did not immediately begin Sunday services. Initially, they celebrated together every day, and only when they wanted to distinguish themselves from Judaism did they emphasize Sunday as the day of Jesus' resurrection.1
New Testament sources do not provide clear evidence of regular Sunday services. This won't be as big of a problem if we have the ability to limit the search to just our library and parts of our library. Although it would be nice if it could read across your entire selection regardless of language and give you an answer in your input language. Again, this is only helpful if we can limit the search to our own libraries.

Try asking for specific books or authors in your question. Study Assistant can narrow its searches if it detects you want to find your answer in a particular work or from a particular author.

So far, I am really liking it. The first question I asked was, "What is the purpose of the authors of Scripture recording the exact measurements of the Temple?"

It gave me a very adequate response, referencing two books, one book that I owned and one that I did not. Just in the response given, it has made me think of wanting to get the second book, Sacred Space, Sacred Thread, edited by John W. Welch and Jacob Rennaker.

Given all that it has to access, with much of it being on the computer as well as online servers and everything, and being a first Beta of this, I am greatly impressed with the product and will probably regularly use this.

It is useful as it can be started after a Smart Search, but it needs more development e.g. a follow up to a Smart Search took the context of the initial Q even though it had been narrowed by an earlier Q.

A surprising answer to "Are the 144000 the same as those in Revelation 7?" was:

"Revelation 7 and 14 both describe visions of the 144,000, and these passages are parallel to each other (1). They refer to the same group of people - specifically identified as the Jewish Christian remnant who fled Jerusalem before its fall in AD 70. In Revelation 7, they flee to the desert, while in Revelation 14, they are positioned as an eschatological army ready to confront Roman forces (2).
These two main texts describe the 144,000 at different points: Revelation 7 provides a “flashback” to the beginning of their ministry, while Revelation 14 depicts them at the end of the Tribulation"

Note that the context had been established by the previous Q as Chapter 14.

It's not yet very forgiving with book titles. It worked for me, but I had to adjust "An" to "A."

@Phil Gons (Logos) that worked. I think I copied and pasted the title from a pdf version of his book which had "An" instead of "A". Interestingly, it gave me a different answer cited from different pages in the book.

My feedback then would be maybe the assistant could be a little more forgiving about the titles. ☺️

We have plans to bring Study Assistant to the web app, but we have not released it for beta testing just yet.

I like the new Study Assistant; however, it lacks a way to save the results of the new search. I note that Smart Search has a button to copy the Synopsis. Is that new? I had not noticed it prior to this release, but that could be the result of using ancient eyes 🙄

More feedback: It would be helpful to be able to have more than one Assistant window open at once, similar to the way you can have multiple instances of the Factbook, Search, Guides, and other tools open.

Tried something similar to @Phil Gons (Logos) I was surpised there were no direct links to NT Wright books - I Have a ton of them too, including the one referenced in the answrr but not linked. Yet it offered some citations that are pretty obscure books…

This method is a bit of a workaround for now. Until we get full support for collections, it's not going to work perfectly in all cases.

It's trying to limit the search to books with author:"N. T. Wright" and then extract its answer from the top few results, which in this case happen not to be his most important works. So Study Assistant is dependent on which search results rank the highest under the hood.

If you know the specific book you want it to source its answer from, you can ask it to limit itself to that book.

So you can limit by author or by author and book title.
