Posting this as a discussion instead of a suggestion just to generate some discussion. If it needs to be turned into a suggestion, it can.

I haven't yet exhausted my monthly AI credits in Logos Max yet in any month.

However, with AI features becoming more mainstream in Logos, I could see where users could exhaust their monthly credits.

A nice workaround would be a way to purchase bundles of AI credits in the event a user continually exhausts their AI credits.

Once purchased, the unused credits would stay "banked" off to the side, then be used during months a user exhausts their monthly credits.

Almost like "overdraft protection" where a "savings account" kicks in and covers the balance for an overdraft checking account.

That would allow AI heavy users to continue using AI on those months while still providing a revenue source to cover the AI use.

Let me play devil's advocate. Using AI encourages the studying of human materials about the Bible rather than studying the Bible itself. Furthermore, AI encourages a style of Bible study that bypasses three primary purposes of Bible study (1) listening quietly to God speak (2) communicating with God (3) allowing God's Word to shape us. Doesn't a limit on AI credits serve (at least in theory) as a safeguard against using our tools to abuse Bible study? Doesn't AI encourage studying scripture as just another dead language text rather than as the living Word of God?

Yes, this post skates the border of permissible theological posts but I think it critical for Logos to consider deeply what it means to be a "Bible study tool." Somewhere, in its history, Logos scaled back its interest in what the computer added to the possibilities of contemporary Bible study and concentrated its energies on automating 19th century study skills. (I think DMB has spoken on this multiple times). This resulted in hiding the ambiguities and puzzles behind what users accept as single, authoritative "answers." AI as implemented so far, tends to take this further … standardizing what we ask and how we express it, little evaluation of the reliability of the sources mixing the good, the bad, and the hallucinations. These all take us further from the purposes of Bible study and moves Logos use from the religious exercise to an academic one.

Because AI is currently a financial loss-leader, I am against anything that encourages us to become dependent on a service whose price is bound to go up, perhaps significantly.

Good points.

I haven’t personally gone anywhere near my AI credit limit yet, and I mainly use Smart Search. I mainly use it as an improvement on the Logos search engine to find hard to find stuff, not as a replacement for my own HI (human intelligence) in the Bible study process.

But maybe I’m using AI wrong. :-)

I agree with MJ from a theological standpoint. Saying it finds stuff ignores what it didn't find, as it confidently presents stuff. And judging from screen copies so far, the stuff is pretty low-grade.

That said, though, the ability to top-off the credit tank encourages use from a marketing standpoint. Don't even need to sell much extra … just a 'not to worry'.

It will be interesting to see what happens with AI and Bible study in the future. I don’t want it replacing my Bible study and my own research and reasoning, but I’ve had success with smart search as a supplement.
