The previous sticking point (ie no FL response) was what new features become owned after 2 years. The usual answer is non-AI/translate. And the usual guess is the new tab, and expanded Factbook (dynamic menu everybody).

@Jason Stone (Logos) That's a good idea about signing up for the trial at end of month s it gives you a month to test it out, and if you decide to stay you lock in your discount. I have done my share of reminding others and personally have gotten multiple people to subscribe so I did my part :-)

While I know there is still a year to go before the first Legacy Fallback License, it may actually help some people decide if you could give us a quick list of what new features would be included.

Jason, doesn’t everyone at Logos already know that L10 owners are NOT eligible for a free trial? Do you not know this?

why do they repeatedly advertise sales specials that do not materialize when you actually go to the website and put stuff in your cart?

it does not offer me any free trial.

they even sent me a postcard in the mail with this offer of a free trial which they are not going to give me.

I scanned the code and went to the page, and as I already had suspected, there was no free trial. More false advertising by logos.

@John When I first signed up for a Logos subscription as an L10 owner, I was offered both the one month free trial and the discount. Not sure about others, but it worked for me.

Faithlife has yet to answer this question with a definitive answer that can be found in the subscriptions FAQ: What features will be included in the Legacy Fallback License for L10 full feature upgrade owners?

Not what features are not included, but what features are included that will be retained after 2 years of subscribing. I find it very odd that Faithlife has not provided any definitive information regarding this after offering the legacy fallback license a year ago.
Faithlife themselves (not anyone else) need to answer this question so that there is a definitive answer from them. A non-definitive answer from them leaves me with absolutely no consideration to subscribe. I'm not paying blindly for what I don't know in advance what I'll be able to keep as far as features are concerned after subscribing for 2 years, and knowing what is included will lead me to decide on whether or not to subscribe for 2 years (depending on what the features are and whether or not I want them).

@Jeff Rodrigues the Legacy Fallback License has not been offered. As a product, it does not yet exist. It is understandable that people would like incremental updates on the compilation of the Legacy Fallback License, but I don't think that is likely to happen. The Legacy Fallback License will become available in the Fall of 2026. Around this time, we should have clarity on exactly what will be included. Until then, educated guessing will be required.

Ditto .. absent the Legacy Fallback, a month at a time as needed makes more sense, even if regular price. Subscribing to cheap-subscribe only makes sense if AI or buying large libraries.

Aaron, I respectfully disagree. The Legacy Fallback License, while not clearly defined, is advertised and offered. Of course there are a lot of things happening, and I don't expect them to give minute detail when we still an additional year to go yet. But we are halfway there so they should be able to tell us something. That is not unreasonable. Even if they specifically named a handful of things it would at least be something. It is amazing that they can be so vocal about other things, but when this question gets asked, we get crickets. Some kind of response with some kind of information could be very helpful as multiple people are on the fence about this. Not going to make this into an argument, but the question and concern are valid.

While obviously they don't know exactly what's going to be in the Legacy Fallback License, there doesn't seem to be any good reason why there's not someplace (even if just a separate thread in the forums) where they can at least let people know what will be in it so far.

It really is a big ask to tell people… "subscribe for 2 years and we'll give you a fallback license", but not give them any concrete details of what they get. I mean, subscriptions started August 2024… we're over a year into this.

Other than instant light/dark mode, what features would people get?

I agree; my response was clumsy. What I intended to communicate for those who are unaware is that the Legacy Fallback License is not currently offered as a finished product. It is currently offered as a promise to grant ownership of offline features that are developed up to October 2026 to those who subscribe for two consecutive years and have previously purchased a base package.

I know the Legacy Fallback License won't be complete until Fall 2026, but it would be a good idea to compile a running list of "here's what's included so far". Logos can add/update the list as new features are added. That would at least give those on the fence something to push them over to considering subscribing.

For now, I'm sufficiently satisfied with the subscription (and I like the new toolbar!) I suspect, however, the reason that what's (new) in the LFL is not listed because it's precious little. All the big new features are the AI dependent ones, and they won't be included.

Again, Faithlife themselves need to address what is included in the license conclusively, even if incomplete right now. Information regarding features that has been gathered from those other than Faithlife doesn't make it a guarantee that these features will be included in the license. Again, Faithlife themselves need to answer regarding this.

From the very beginning, the free trials were problematic; some L10 owners got them, some didn't. I'm a L10 owner who never got a free trial. The real problem is Logos advertising these free trials in a way that implies every L10 owner gets offered one, when the reality is that it is sometimes like potluck.

When we initially launched the subscription, L10 owners weren't eligible for a free trial. That changed earlier this year, and since then, everyone has been eligible for a free trial, unless you've already had a free trial within the last twelve months or so. I'm not sure whether previously having a subscription also makes someone ineligible for a free trial.

Thanks for the clarification Mark. I never got a free trial. But I did have a subscription for one month. Apparently the cart where we check out knows that I’m not eligible. But whoever sent out the post card did not know. (or more likely did not care)

I never did understand prohibiting L10'ers to test what FL seemed to present as a great update. As if, well, not much to see, guys.

Then, finally backing down, try once! Which is equally nutty. It implies what you saw in Oct 24 is pretty much the same in 11/25.

Now, true, a freebie each month might be a reason to manage it … but so also, a freebie Prime a month.

Looks like John needs to cough up some more bucks to try it out again, a year later.

I did manage to get a free trial. I think it was for either Premium or Pro, so it wasn't Max, but it at least let me get my feet wet with Smart Search to know I wanted to keep it.

I always obsess over my charges after having my credit card compromised, so I would know if I was charged for something. I do believe that Logos should offer every L10 user a free trial who hasn't been offered one (or it wouldn't hurt to offer them one more free trial even if they were offered one) to help drive more subscriptions. Apple does this all the time with me on Apple Music trying to draw me back in.

"Smart Search
For a limited time, non-subscribers may use Smart Search in All Search and Books Search, up to 100 times each month.
Study Assistant
Study Assistant now offers a limited number of queries for non-subscribers. These messages function the same as standard Study Assistant queries and can all be used within a single conversation or across multiple threads."

I've no idea what that means.

It means that AI prompts and menus replace the "Legacy" default choices so that you cannot do things the way you used to without changing options or seeing nagware messages about how you need to subscribe. It was already doing this on mobile.

Running an older versions of the software is the only way to avoid this, and you cannot realistically do that on the mobile platforms.

Here is what you see by default on iOS:

Dashboard: defaults to AI, no obvious way to change the search type

Search: defaults to AI, you have to manually change the search mode to avoid the nagware messages.

Yes, technically it is still "free". But they are definitely taking away the ability to truly enjoy using the software without subscribing. The constant nagging is obtrusive and gets in the way, and there is no way to turn it off.
