Gen 11 and lessor Gods, "sons of god"-many gods in Canaan already

So, we are told that Deut 32:8 is in referrence to Gen 11 and the tower of babel. Hieser goes so far as to interpret that God place "lessor gods" over the people. this brings two questions to me;

1. were there "no" "gods" at this time? Explain?
2. Did they appear suddenly and become corrupt suddenly, as Canaan and the surrounding countries were will into "idol" and gods by the time Abram came…
3. We have many writings about gods in the Mesopotamian area long before Abram. Its just hard defending this from this perspective. Were these the "super gods" that he put over the nations?
4. And, speaking of, how do we account for the "nations", since nations existed before babel? or did they not. Is it that the call of Abram was long after Babel?

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row on this before I put myself too far in agreement.

It does say that, but Logos has made it clear (probably with good reason) that they'd rather not have theological discussions here.

I would use something like this (with the first a smart search and the rest continuing in Study Assistant):

1: some translations refer to "sons of God" in Deut 32:8. Were there other gods at this time?

2: when did these gods appear and did they become corrupt suddenly, recognising idol worship was common by the time of Abram?

I think your Bible version is what is confusing you. Try reading the same verse in the King James Version. You will find a different meaning.

Also, many kings have told the people that they are Gods through out history. Especially, the pharaohs etc. , but they were only men.

All the Demi Gods and heroes of old, or offspring of the angels and human women (all angels are male/or not split into male- female sex like man) died in the flood of Noah that God sent to destroy them.

However, obviously we don’t know the gene pool of Noah’s 3 sons after the flood and it is written that King David killed a giant in his youth.
