A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament: A Companion to the 6th Edition of the United Bible

I received the email stating that this resource is ready to download but cannot locate it anywhere in my library. I seem to have this problem every time a pre-pub. purchase goes out. It usually shows up a few days later—but not this time. Anyone else have this problem?

Exactly—Are they even in production? I haven’t seen anything about them & have been wondering.

On another note, perhaps someone can explain the process of how the UBS Committee arrives at their grading of variants. E.g., for I Timothy 3.16 they grade the reading Ος over-against Θεός as a sure-fire A.

Yet, curiously they don’t seem to reference the fact that many early writers such as Ignatius seem to quote this variant as “Θεός was manifest in the flesh.”

Indeed, Dean Burgon’s infamous work amasses a voluminous amount of early writers who quote this variant as “Θεός was revealed in the flesh”—which few contemporary textual critics ever seem to mention.

I wish Burgon's text-critic writings were in Logos (arguments vs Westcott/Hort and Ellicott). I don't particularly agree with Burgon but Logos' current fax imagery is unusable.

I'll be careful what I say here so this doesn't derail into a theological discussion.

I would recommend the books on Textual Criticism in Logos. There's a Principles in Textual Criticism, plus Wegner's book, plus the Lexham Methods book. Those give you a general understanding of what principles guide the committee.

The committee then reviews the manuscript data the makes a decision on how to grade it.

Dan Wallace has some videos out there that are useful as well.

My high school was TR, so I read most of Burgon's works. Most modern text critics don't seem to be major fans of him. Some of his works might be able to be brought into Logos as personal books. I agree I'd like to see them in here just to add to the discussion.

Another book I read recently that has a unique approach to the TR/MT is the Merged Gospels. I've met the author. That would make for a good Logos book.

I suppose we're still within the scope of the thread. Logos does need more in-depth coverage on (english) translation, and assumed mss-base. The above verse in question flip-flopped several times, just from the late-1500s, without worshipping at the feet of the great uncials.

While I was checking, I ran into an interesting chart (below; Heb 1:1). We (Logos) have 2 of the Wycliffs (not shown), and Tyndale and Geneva. Missing (I wish) either the Matthew or the Bishops. Didn't try to figure out which KJV was being quoted. Ok, getting way off post.
