Forcing a paragraph to be indented in a Personal Book

Is there some kind of in-line code that can be added to the text in a personal book I am creating that forces the next paragraph to be indented compared to the rest of the text? Or can I force the paragraph to have a background color change for one paragraph? I see examples of such things in purchased books in Logos, but can't see a way to do that myself in building a personal book…

The indentation features of MSWord will be reflected in the Personal Book. I don't recall the behavior of background colors.

That has not been my experience — I have tried various ways to indent and nothing. I tried to use a Block Quotation paragraph style and to simply indent the paragraph.

One caveat: I am using LibreOffice Writer to edit and save Word 2010-365 type documents for building into a Personal Book.

I confirm that indentation in MS Word is respected, as is line spacing and font color.
Background colors are not respected.

Many thanks for that confirmation. Clarify for me: 2007 or 2010 and beyond in the .docx format?

I will make a test file with my school copy of Microsoft Office to see it happen for myself and then try the same thing from LibreOffice saving as a .docx file and try it again.

@Lasda I have Word from the Office 365/Microsoft 365 subscription, so it is beyond 2010.

I sorted it out! Long story short, the file has some kind of issue that opening it once in Word detects some errors that it offers to fix. When you build the fixed file, everything works as expected.

The rest of the story: I use ReadIris 23 to scan .pdf files for my doctorate work. It says that it is making a .docx file, but LibreOffice always treats it as a 2007. I am careful to always "save as" the 2010 version, but every time I open the file, LibreOffice defaults back to 2007 format when trying to save the file. As noted above — open it in Word, let it fix what it finds, and then save it, and Word makes everything work just fine.

I know what to do now — sadly, I've made close to 300 documents that need fixing and rebuilt…
