iPad suggestions for logos use

hello all,

i am interested in buying a new iPad to use mostly with logos and maybe a little with Dwell. I haven’t seen a ton of screenshots of the iPad mini with logos on the internet. What are your thoughts on using the mini? I plan to mostly use two-recourses like a translation and commentary. Is mini good enough for this or a bit crammed where I should consider the iPad Air instead?

You ask a difficult question as I can't see how you use Logos. However, in general, I think you would appreciate the larger iPad Air as it would allow for more real estate for you to work.
Certainly, Logos will even work on a small phone so the Mini would still be fine.

I feel the larger screen is defiantly a plus. My youth leader has the mini and he old me he wants to get a larger screen just for Logos

@Saay, Let me speak here as someone who is a Logos user first before being someone who works for the company :-)

I am very big on iPad use and have two that I use every day. I have an iPad mini that I use mostly for reading and very light exegetical work. I carry the iPad mini with me just about everywhere because it is so small and compact. I've attached a screenshot from my iPad mini to mirror your description of a translation and commentary. If I'm reading one book, I hold the iPad mini in portrait mode; if I need two panes, I turn it landscape as you see below.

If your eyes are better than mine, you could reduce the font size to get more content on the screen. And although the iPad mini, because it is running the iPad version of Logos, can run up to four panes, I don't really recommend it on a screen that small. For anything more than this, I would use my 13" iPad Pro.

I'm a small-font person. Read quite a bit on my iphone. I use a 4-pane on my mini, along with single panes for reading. Just me, I don't see the value in a larger ipad … at that point I need my Mac for full-on Logos.

I completely forgot about the landscape mode since normally I lock in on portrait mode on my iPhone. That’s a good call! Do you have time to do a screenshot of just a Bible translation in portrait only? I think if I used the mini I’d probably use it that way or possibly a tiny window below it with a commentary.

Rick, you have two iPads, but if you only had one which would you choose? Of course, the smaller size is easy to carry and to hold, but I must confess that often I will prefer the web app over the mobile app, and the web app works much better on a larger display.

The mobile app is certainly good for reading and quick lookups, and I love that I can take Logos with me anywhere, but the mobile app simply can't provide all the features I sometimes need.

Of course, we don't know how @Brian Knutson really wants to use this iPad so I'm glad you pointed out how you use your Mini and when you need to move to your iPad Pro.

I was originally just going to get a nice premium bible but since I have kids and they can damage items easy, I know iPad has been pretty hard to damage item. I have an older iPad 8th gen. It has 32gb of storage so I have to factory reset it everytime an iOS update comes because it needs free space to install the update and even deleting all apps doesn’t quite free up enough.

I probably won’t need the web version for extra features. I have a MacBook Pro. I’m mostly going to use this on the couch or sometimes at kitchen table.

Choosing would be difficult because I use my two iPads very differently. The iPad Pro has the keyboard cover with trackpad, and I use it like most people use a laptop. If I'm away from my desk (where I have my work and personal Macs) and need to be doing something that requires typing, I use the iPad Pro. I have also used it when sitting in lectures or meetings outside my home to take notes. It is usually the device I take with me on non-work trips. I also like the larger form factor of the iPad Pro (I have the 13" inch version) for marking up PDFs with the Apple Pencil, although I actually used my iPad mini for that last night in preparation for leading a book study at church tonight.

The iPad mini is primarily a reader for me. It's not enough for me to have something like just a Kindle because I have books across multiple platforms (Logos, Accordance, Kindle, nook, Apple Books, etc.). The iPad mini is the perfect device for me to have my entire library with me. I will take it to church tonight because I am leading a book study. The book we're reading is, unfortunately, not available in Logos; but I have a PDF of it that I highlighted and made marginal notes in the margins in preparation for tonight's study.

If the highly-rumored iPhone "fold" comes to be this Fall, I would consider replacing my iPad mini with the folding iPhone and possibly reducing a device I carry.

The fold iPhone is interesting as I could see the mini being pretty pointless at that point. I also know iPad mini based on release schedule is due to potentially being update this year.

I’ll look at your screenshot a bit more to see which would be best and I’ll likely make a decision based on that and what I feel is more future proof. Thanks for sending screeenshots, it helps a ton. Even on YouTube, there are no uploads of people using the mini with logos yet I’ve seen in comments a number of people mentioning using logos with the iPad mini.

Right now the only iPad I have at the moment is the iPad mini.

I use it daily for reading Logos books, Bible reading plans, devotionals, etc.

It's even useful for some searching/guides when I need an iPad I can hold in one hand.

I likely wouldn't use anything else to read Logos books than an iPad mini.

However, I am seriously considering picking up an iPad Air when I can budget for it so I could do some harder-core Bible study but still using a touch screen instead of doing everything on my Mac.

I've watched how well @Rick Mansfield (Logos) has used an iPad in his daily life and have conversed with him, and I have learned a ton about how I could incorporate using a larger-screen iPad in my daily workflow.
