Slow Display While Typing

Is it just me, or is there a significant delay while typing and the text actually appearing on the screen? I've noticed this in the search bar, but more annoyingly in the notes editor.

I'll type something (I'm a fast typer) and it might take a good second or more to see the text appear on the screen. If I made a typo, I need to wait for what I already wrote to show up on the screen to be able to go back and edit it.

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Hi Lloyd,

Typing speed in the rich text editor (notes) is improved in version 4.0c. Have you installed that update yet?

By "search bar" do you mean the Home Page passage search, the Command box on the main toolbar, or the Find box in the Search panel? If you're typing in the Search panel Find box, is it slow no matter the type of Search: Basic, Bible, Morph, Syntax? If it occurs primarily with Bible search, is "Search (while typing)" selected?

Thanks for noting that "[t]yping speed in the rich text editior . . . is improved in 4.0c." I thought, "My, this is better!" but didn't realize it was part of the update. Thanks even more for the improvement itself[:)]

I do have 4.0c. I didn't notice any significant difference between 4.0c and previous releases.

By search bar, I mean doing a Bible word search. And I have tried both search while typing and with that option off.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'm not able to reproduce this, however, I've been testing in the 4.0d beta. Let's wait to see if things improve in 4.0d when it's released, which should be fairly soon.

If it doesn't improve, it would help to have more specifics about your Note documents. Does it make a difference if there is one note or many notes in the document? Or if there is one line versus a long paragraph? Are the notes that seem slow to type in ones that were imported from Logos 3? What fonts and formatting are in use?

I'm not sure about the others, but in my situation, most of my note documents have quite a few notes in them (anywhere from 30-50 distinct notes on verses all located in 1 big note for the book of the bible). My typing becomes slow pretty much as soon as I start typing a new verse entry in the note.

Does that make sense? Looks clear as mud to me, but it's hard to describe. I guess the short answer is every time I start typing in my notes, it's slow.

I've noticed that it makes a big difference if you tag your note to a passage rather than to selected text. The latter is pretty quick, the former can be difficult. What seems to happen when you attach a note to a reference is that L4 updates the note information to all the resources with reference tags, or at least, all the ones that are open, and it seems to do this every few seconds. This can be very frustrating on even a fast machine.

To get around this, for more than a one or two sentence note, I sometimes type in my word processor and then copy/paste into the note file. You could also use notepad, etc.

The other strategy is to only attach a note to a selection in your preferred Bible (or other Bible/resource). This means that your note is only visible in that Bible, but for me that's a non-issue, since my preferred Bible is always open. (Typing a note attached to a selection is much, much faster for me.)

Wow that does make a lot of sense (about the updating all resources every few seconds). All of my notes are tagged to passages, and usually when I add them I'll have two Bibles and three commentaries or so all open to the passage. This would explain it although it didn't always seem to be this way. It's like something changed. Either way, I'll probably have to copy/paste my notes in.
