I need your advice about Pc slate
What would be your advice? I was glad
about the HP slate, when it was first announced, with window 7,It was believed
that it was possible to read the entire logos 4 resources, now this is I think
out of question. But now I am asking your help to make a dession,is there any
news of another device in production, appart of the ipad?If there is no alternative,
should I buy the ipad,or I have to wait until January, incase there may be
another in process of production?, or the ipad may be cheaper or better one may
be produced?
God bless you.
Blessings in Christ.

Tesfaye, not sure what is "out of the question." Do you mean it may not be produced? You know technology is always changing. I am sure if you wait, you will get something. But how long do you want to wait? the iPad would be nice NOW, although you would not access your whole library. However, significant resources CAN be used on it (like Zondervan products, etc). Are you just wanting it to read?
Of course, you could get the TouchSmart from HP. Not as light as an iPad, but perhaps more user-friendly than a regular laptop when you just want to read (you can fold the screen down).
I don't have the money for either. But I have used my wife's iPod touch to read several things, and it was nice. I am sure the iPad would be even nicer! But remember, the functionality on it is much less than the full L4 version--just depends what you want it for (and there is currently no highlighting, too, remember)
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

Tes, I think the closest to what you are looking for is supposed to be a few new announcements from Asus. HP Slate should be similar to iPAD as far as the operation system. It will not support Windows 7 as far as I know. New Asus devices (at least one of them) should. You can google them, I do not have the link ready here. I am also looking for that kind of device. iPad is not meeting my expectations, yes, it is great, but I need "full blood" Logos on the device. iPad is not offering that.

Yes ,you were hoping also like me ,that the HP slate
might be the best one to work with the full capacity of Logos 4,but there was
no successes on it ,I would be glad if it would be possible , with window
7,that enables me to use Amharic fonts, as well as my Amharic Bible offline.Let
me see ,where I can see what the Asus can offer?Blessings in Christ

Tes,
I have used an HP Elitebook 2730p for this very purpose but have found the Tablet form factor too bulky. The startup time and the sleep factor/battery usage just don't work and it truly feels like you are carrying a small laptop around. I have also used the iPad and the way it works is excellent but the limitations of the Logos app have been noted by many. Language support would be a problem for many as well. I understand that the eventual Windows competitor will be running a version of Windows called Windows Embedded Compact 7. This is expected to be somewhere in between Windows 7 and Windows Mobile 7 but as far as i can tell applications will have to be rewritten for it as well so L4 would not work out of the box. I am skeptical that we are going to see a truly functioning Windows 7 OS on a slate form factor due to its inherent limitations (power usage, memory usage, OS image size, UI design, etc.) Apple has the form factor and OS right with the iPad. I think we are seeing tacit agreement from HP and Windows separately when the HP Slate was killed and Micorosoft announced WEC7. The unfortunate outcome of that for us as mobile Bible studiers is that we either wait until it all shakes out or we put up with substantial limitations for a while. I am choosing the latter.

Tes,
I expect that we'll see a new iPad either in the fall (just in time for Christmas buying) or in January (around the anniversary of the announcement). I expect the new one will have a better display (perhaps similar to the iPhone 4's Retina Display), a camera on the front for video conferencing, more RAM with the processor (the iPhone 4's A4 has 512MB to the iPad's 256MB), and a few additional surprises. iOS 4 will be available on it in the early fall, I suspect.
I don't know any of this, but these are reasonable and educated guesses based on my technology insights coupled with a bit of the prophetic gift.

It's the entry page for ASUS's website. You select your region in the world to get to the relevant section of the website. Here's where the Germany selection will take you to: http://www.asus.de/. There you can look to see what they have available already. Or if you prefer English to German, you can check out their Global site: http://www.asus.com/index.aspx
Here is an early preview of the ASUS Eee Pad. Looks like it still has a long way to go to be fully functional:

Right now your options are the iPad / iPhone/iPod Touch or a Tablet PC running Windows. There is nothing else to run Logos on. HP just bought Palm and is likely going to release a tablet with the WebOS that Palm offers and not Windows. But that is not certain. The iPad version of Logos is limited compared tot he Windows/Mac version. So there are tradeoffs.
If I were buying right now, I would definitely get an iPad. If you can wait six months the picture with the HP slate will be clearer. And if Logos gets a lot of resonse from their poll they recently took they may end up developing an Android version which will open up a huge number of possibilities in the next six months as we will see many of those in small form factor netbooks or tablets.

able to use ‘’Nyala fonts’ for writing Amharic, even if to cost meBlessings in Christ.

I see from another thread that you did decide to buy the iPad. So then, are you planning to buy a Tablet PC also? The iPad won't run WIndows 7, so you can't use your Nyala fonts on it. I hope you do find it to be useful anyway.

My friend at www.gottabemobile.com got back to me. He says the best slate out now with Win7 and power is the Fujitsu T900.
http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=T900
He said it is great because it is a convertible notebook but in slate mode it feels like a slate and not a huge slab of hot stone like some of these. He loves it.
But you have to wonder. Is it worth paying that much when you could get nearly 4 iPads for the price of one of these.

I don't mean that I want to buy both of them,I havn't even thought that the Pc slate is almost as big as a labtop. What makes me to think to it was ,the Nyala fonts, which are only available in microsoft. But my quetion is ,I want to know if it is possible to use the Nyala fonts in PDF file,to be able to read ,when I am offline.

Thank you Kevin.first of all it is almost as big as a labtop second,it is very expensive ,and I don't know what makes it more expensive than a labtop.I think right now I don't see any alternative apart ipad.

get a LAPtop and a cheaper iPod touch.
Then you have full L4 function, with the option to read with portability. That's my current state, and it is working well.

That is like the HP EliteBook 2730p I mentioned on page 1. I have used it and the iPad in church and while it is nice to have my full library and full functionality with the HP the bulkiness, heat, and sluggishness in coming out of powersave just made it an unpleasant experience. The iPad is definitely limited but IMO far more usable in a church service or Sunday School. I am eagerly awaiting Logos bringing the iPad closer to feature parity with the competition.

It is a laptop.
But that is your only option for a computer running Windows 7 that can run Logos and as for cost - I took "even if it costs me" to mean you didn't mind paying a premium, which you will.
Another cheaper option is the HP TM2, but it is very bulky and heavy compared to the iPad.

Yes. That looks to be the best thing but it is up to Logos to let us know more on those plans. I would really appreciate some info and if we know where we are heading, we can buy iPad with the limited Logos knowing, that in a short time we will see much more similarity to the "Big" Logos.
