Copying Notes from one Note File to another.

Hello All,

I was studying the Note File features and wanted to know what could we do to copy Notes from one Note File to another. So, I see that it is possible to drag one Note from one Note File to another. But then I saw that it does not copy the Note, it transfers.

So, when I drag the Note it is removed from the original Note File and replaced in the new Note File. Too bad, I wanted to copy Notes, not transfer them. But! I don't know why, maybe instinctively as a PC user I hit CTRL - Z (undo) and it worked!!! The Note was copied to the new Note File and the Note was put back in the original Note File as well.

Now, my question. Is this behavior by design? Is this the way to copy Notes from one place to another? Are there commands that I am missing. I want to learn the right way.

While I'm glad this did accomplish what you what it shouldn't have. CTRL -Y should have restored things to the previous setting, e.g. file back in the original and not in the new. That's what I would expect, anyway. The best way I can think of to copy the note is to select all the text (CTL A), Copy it, (CTRL C) and paste it into a new note (CTRL V). Of course this only works if the note is not linked a location. Then you would also have to create the note from the desired location and copy-paste the content.

I would recommend that dragging and dropping result in two notes as the previous one can be easily deleted manually if desired.

Philip, sorry I did not explain clearly (English is not my first language as you can see!). CTRL + Z did restore thing to my original Note FIle. So, I drag the Note I wanted to copy to the new Note File. So, it worked fine, the Note was placed into the new Note File. But then I realized that it in turns removed the Note from the original Note File. So, it transferred from one Note File to another. Then, I hit CTRL + Z and the Note was restored to the original Note File while keeping the copy on the new Note File.

To make sure it worked, I closed both Note Files and opened again and the Notes were there, just fine.

As it is working fine this way, I find it much better than CTRL + C, CTRL V, Besides, doing the way I do allow me to copy any kind of Note, even the ones linked to a location. I just want to know if there is a proper way to do it because the CTRL + Z in this case seems to be a non-designed shortcut.

Hope some Logos geek will tell us if there is a proper way to do it.

I am sorry. I put it wrong. Instead of CTRL+Y, please read CTRL-Z, as it is the Undo shortcut. So, everything I am saying is through CTRL+Z. I have edited my posts already.

You are lucky. There is no designed way to do this. I would expect holding the Ctrl key down while dragging should copy instead of moving a note (as that is standard behavior in Windows), but this does not work. I will report this as a bug or feature request.

It is only accidental that Ctrl+Z leaves the note in the new Note file when undoing your drag/move operation. It shouldn't do that, as Undo should restore things exactly to the way they were before. But I won't tell anybody if you don't (as they will want to fix it). Unless/until Logos implements a proper copy note command.

Yes, I tried to hold down the CTRL key and other sorts of commands before I got the CTRL+Z. Thanks for confirming that it is a non designed command.

But I won't tell anybody if you don't (as they will want to fix it). Unless/until Logos implements a proper copy note command.
