That will work fine with the Logos iPad app. When you get it, just search for "Logos" in the app store.

    Tes, I am confused here.

You purchased an Ipad with 32 GB of memory.  This is made by Apple computers.  At the end of your quote....you mention wanting to read the entire library with window 7.  This is a microsoft creation.  It is the opposite from an ipad.  At the beginning of this particular post you did say there was a misunderstanding.  It seems to me you really did not want an Ipad but something with windows 7.  I do not believe there is a product available that is on the "size" of the ipad but runs windows 7.

Edit:  I just found a posting by Rosie.  I should have remembered this product myself....  We do have Tablet PC's this is more like an Ipad and will likely run Windows 7.

    Hi William,

    Sorry for confusing.

    1.
It was in ebay, when I called to the one
who wanted to sell it to make the payment and the delivery charge  ,assuming it was Ipad,he told me ,that it was
not  ipad . That means ,because I was the
winner ,there was no question that makes me ,not having it.

    2.
Window 7 I want t it  ,not to enable me to read the entire library, but
,because I am only able to write Nyala fonts  with it.This is not possible with ipad, but if
there is no way ,what can I do ?

    3.
The misunderstanding, I mean I thought what I
read online was ,the ipad. That means I misunderstood it,until the person
    explained me.

    4.
Yes really ipad is not my choise, because I have
mentioned it.I cannot use the Nyala fonts for the Amharic language, but if
there is no possibility ,I don’t have any choise ,a part of buying the ipad
,because I want to read my books.

    5.
I am interested to know what you have mentioned,
    what Rosie talked about.

Thank you  for taking time to help
    me.

    Blessings
    in Christ

    Tes,

There was a seller in Ebay that advertised a Ipad (you thought).  It turned out not being an Ipad but maybe an Ipod?  (much smaller).   Anyway, this seller may force this sale as you were the winner of the auction?  What did you actually win the bid of?

If it was the Ipod....which is a lot smaller and not as function filled Ipad, it may still be of use.  You will be able to read some of your resources.  The big thing that I see with the ipod and the like I believe is the lack of notes features, and just general use of logos as on a desktop or laptop.  To me it is just an e-reader that is very portable.

I understand your desire for the windows 7 machine for the use of your fonts.  I am not really up on current technology but I would think it is possible to get fonts for other languages on multiple machines.

I have done some searching online for tablet pc and found some.  It seems none of them are like the Ipad.  Given another year or two, I would expect more PC based machines like the Ipad to come out.  There was an article that said the public was really not wanting a tablet like the Ipad but since it came and Apple has been  teaching it.....It is a new boom.

    What was
desplayed in ''ebay was iPad 32GB Neu OVP *Lockerz
Redeemable + ZLister** '' and a picture of ipad. it was  new ,the bid was
    to your surprise 189 euro.

Tes, I clicked on the link. Yes, according to the picture, it is an iPad not an iPod. 189 Euro would be very expensive for an iPod, but it seems a good price for an iPad. If the seller told you over the phone it is not an iPad, then it was false advertising, because it clearly said "iPad" and was a picture of an iPad.

I did not understand you when you said, "That means ,because I was the winner ,there was no question that makes me ,not having it." Usually in eBay if you are the winner you have to pay for the item. Did the seller make you pay for it, or did he let you go because of the misunderstanding? If it is not an iPad after all, but he tries to make you pay for it, you can probably get some support from eBay, because the item was falsely advertised. This would be a case of fraud. Here is some info on eBay's Buyer Protection: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/protection-programs.html

For running Windows 7, there has been a category of PC for some time now called "Tablet PC." How it is similar to iPad:

    1) it is a small portable screen with no keyboard (or for "convertibles" the keyboard is hidden inside; it is like a laptop where you open it up and rotate the screen around and close it again so the screen is on the outside and you can use it without the keyboard)

    2) you can interact with the screen via touch or a stylus; the newer ones have multi-touch (such as Asus Eee PC T91, Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T, Fujitsu Lifebook T4310/T4410 (part 2), Dell Latitude XT2, HP TouchSmart TM2, Getac V100)

How it is different from iPad:

    1) It is not from Apple so it doesn't run iPhone apps, including the Logos one. But who cares, because on Windows 7 you can run the full Windows Logos 4 and have access to your entire library. Most of the current ones will run Windows 7 fine, I'm sure.

    2) Most of them probably have built-in WiFi (like any modern laptop would) but I don't think they have mobile 3G or 4G connectivity like the iPad does. But again, who cares. You can use a wireless modem at home and WiFi hotspots when you're out, or if you really need everywhere connectivity you can buy cellular broadband modems for laptops which plug into a PC card slot or USB port (you'd have to check the various models to see what card slots or ports they had, but I'm sure most of them have at least one USB port and there are USB broadband modems). Here's an old article about these modems. There are more and better ones now, I'm sure.

    3) They are more expensive than iPads because they do more; they are complete PCs and can run full apps and connect to peripherals via USB; not so with the iPad.

I am not certain what William meant when he said "It seems none of them are like the Ipad.  Given another year or two, I would expect more PC based machines like the Ipad to come out."  What "like the iPad" features are missing in the current generation of Tablet PC's? It seems to me that Apple merely came out with a cool sexy version of what has already been available on the Windows side, made it run iPhone apps, put a slick marketing campaign behind it, and now all of a sudden everyone is ga-ga about it. Tablets have been around for a while but they hadn't really taken off because they were expensive and there weren't lots of apps for them that specifically took advantage of the tablet format. iPad changed that by making it compatible with all the iPhone apps. If all you want it for is to be able to run it as a regular laptop and also run Logos, then a Tablet PC is fine for your purposes. If you get it with Windows 7, you will be ready for the future. Now that iPad has got everyone excited about tablets, there will be a whole bunch of touch-based apps coming out for Windows on Tablet PCs that will make it worth owning one even if Logos wasn't already enough. There are already some. Here's an article: 12 best touchscreen apps for Windows 7

So, you could wait 6 months or a year and there will be more choices available, but I think there are already some good Tablet PCs that would run Logos on Windows 7.

What exactly are your requirements? Why do you want a tablet/slate as opposed to just a regular laptop? What was it about the iPad that made you want it?

  • Observation: tried using Microsoft Surface in a visitor center => sluggish touch response.  In contrast, have tried half dozen demo iPad's in several stores - consistently responsive to finger touch.

Tablet PC Stylus has good handwriting recognition - could digitize hand written sermons - possibility for pastors that do not like keyboards.

    Fascinating geek history => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tablet_pc

Over many years noticed many fingerprints on computer monitors in work place - human desire to touch.

By the way, iPad Camera Connection kit has USB interface and SD Card reader.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

Dear Rosie ,thank you so much for your help.

    1.
The device has been advertised as you have seen as ipad with a
picture of ipad.It was mentioned the winner has to pay the required money and has
to pick it by himself. When I won the bid I have discovered ,that the seller
lives in Berlin .so from Frankfurt where I live to Berlin is I think about 5oo
Kms.So I have sent him a massage to send me his telephone number, so that he
would send me if he says OK  it to me by
post ,then I would have added the money for it.But when I started to introduce myself
to him ,that I was  the winner of the bid
for ipad ,he told me it was  not ipad ,but
it was something which enables some functions for it,then I asked him ,wether
he would forgive me,for the  misunderstanding I have made.He said it is
    alright.

    2. Why I want a tablet slate ,perhaps I havn’t understood ,what it
is ,first .portability ,because I am amputee on my right leg,I am can’t carry
heavy things, the Labtop is already heavy to carry it for me.I  second I want window 7,so that I can use
Nyala fonts, third I want to use if possible the entire library of logos 4,if
not to be able to read as many books as possible I can.fourth possibility of
wirless connection in my DSL at home,to be able to read offlin, while I am
away.fifth the price should not be more expensive than ipad.

    Blessings in the Lord.

I see. Well, iPad won't run Windows 7, nor your entire Logos library. There are probably some very small light-weight laptops or tablets that will run Windows 7. Maybe a "netbook" (which is a very small laptop with wireless Internet capability) would be what you need. However remember that if you want to run the full Logos 4, you will need a powerful enough processor and enough memory, or it will be terribly slow. Recommended requirements for Logos 4 are: CPU - Core 2 Duo 2 GHz; Memory - 3GB+ RAM; Hard disk: at least 20 GB free space (more if your library is really large). Some of the netbooks don't have that much power, or if you can customize them to have enough power, the price goes up significantly. I still think if you shop around you might be able to find something of comparable price to the top-of-the-line iPads. I am not a hardware expert, though. So I think I've reached the end of the advice I can give. Hope you find something that meets your needs. And I'm glad the eBay seller let you off the hook.

Thank you Rosie, I have one quetion, perhaps if I could make a compromise with ipad.If I am able to save im PDF file, from other computer to ipad ,so as to be able to use my bible study . in Amharic using Nyala fonts at home.

Logos can't save in PDF format. In what applications do you use Nyala fonts on your other computer (Word, some other software?) You say you want to do Bible Study on an iPad in Amharic. Does that mean you want Nyala fonts in Logos, or just in PDF versions of some other Bible study texts? Do you want to be able to type and create content in Amharic? Then I think iPad is still not a good choice for you. It is great for consuming content (reading, browsing the Internet) but not good for creating content (writing documents, taking notes).

When I am thinking of an I pad I see a pamphlet style computer.  I personally would love to see the stylus interface for notes and such.  When I make by above comment I am referring to the tablet Pc's are just laptops with a screen that will rotate and sit on top of the keyboard allowing a person with a "pen" to write on the screen and take notes.  I see the I pad as a very small version of that.  I must admit I should probably not say much about the Ipad since I really don't know much about it.   I think it would be nice to get a full-on computer that is effectively a screen.

I hope that has filtered the dirty water a bit.

Logos can't save in PDF format.

At least not yet.  There are a number of good (and free) programs that can PRINT to a pdf file.  I use the free version of CutePDF - but there are others.  These programs create a PDF file rather than to a more typical printer.

And that is another reason why I love Mac OSX. Printing to PDF is inbuilt in the system OS, so no need to get additional programs.

It has nothing to do with logos, what I mean is,if I am able to read in ipad, after having done  all the works in a normal computer then sending it by e-mail as a PDF file.

The Nyala fonts for the Amharic language are only available in Vista and window 7,first I have to change right on the bottom the language options and then I have to click on the symbole for the Amharic language ,if you dont't mind,it is possible to check it.after changing the language options ,then on the menu for fonts ''Nyala ''must appear to be able to write in Amharic or Geez.

iPad 32GB Neu OVP *Lockerz Redeemable + ZLister** I have bought this ipad now ,is it OK with Logos 4?

This auction is NOT any piece of hardware, but access to a someone's account to then go in an "buy" something... this is a VERY typical scam at ebay and you should walk away. It is a violation of ebay's terms of service.

Best case scenario, someone hacked the password to someone elses account and is selling that to you... they know if they try to redeem anything, it will fail, but it gives every appearance of the capability.

I use BullZIP which is also free and works great. (lostlogik, I don't mind downloading extra add-on stuff that is not built into the operating system, so that isn't an argument for Mac OSX to me. I like having my choice of vendor and UI.)

But since Logos still doesn't print most things, using a print-to-PDF program won't help. But I'm guessing some more print functionality might be coming in 4.0e.
