Weird licensing behavior Libronix under Windows 7

I have been installing Libronix (Logos version 3) to a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have successfully installed Libronix using an old 3.0e DVD.
I then updated to 3.0g.
I synchronized my licenses with the Logos servers.
I then used the script provided on the blog last January to upgrade my resources to Portfolio Edition. That was about 6GB of files and 4 hours of downloading. With NO INDEXING. Yippy!
To handle individual downloaded purchases, I went to my order history page and used the "download for other versions" option to install to my resource folder & followed with licenses synchronization.
To handle those orders that were shipped on CD to me (no download link in my Orders page) I went to the product description pages and downlaoded the files. These are licenses I have already registered and synched into the Logos servers in months past.

Here is where things get goofy.

Most things work fine now. Most resources are in my license list with their respective serial numbers & activation codes listed. Those resource files also show in my Resource folder under Libronix on the hard drive If I try to download them again I even get a warning - "file already exists, Overwrite?" But I can not find them in my Library by Author, Title or any search criteria. WHY not?

To top it all off, my WBC Isaiah commentaies are locked. That isn't funny considering the rest are all unlocked with the 59 volume license that includes the Isaiah volumes. My John Owen's Hebrews commentaries are all locked but licensed as "unlocked" in my account summary. There are so many of these flukes I figure it has got to be something I am doing wrong. I didn't have these problems with other operating systems. Could it be Windows 7? Me? Or those annoying black helicopters that keep buzzing my house?

Any advice, as simple as you want to make it, will be appreciated.

OK. I found out the Word Biblical Commentary 59 volume CD has the REVISED editions of the Isaiah commentaries. (Same author, same volume numbers, different resource files.) So my REVISED Isaiah volumes are now working. My John Owen's commentaries on Hebrews are still locked but show as "unlocked" in my account summary. There are no alternate files on the Logos ftp server, at least none I can find.

Things like this make you appreciate the new format of synchronizing with the servers for all resources.

I just wish all the third party stuff were online too. I never knew I had so much on CDs. [sn]

Most of the 3rd party files are available on the ftp server are they not ? (ftp.logos.com)
There were a few that could not be placed there but not many.

Were you not able to burn a DVD of the resource files from your previous system ?
Suggest you do that for the new system for backup once you have located all the files you need.

Let us know if there are specific files you are missing.

You could try re-installing now your licence is up to date. Use PurgeLDLS.bat to uninstall & delete the cache as per Solution 2 at http://www.logos.com/support/article/565 then re-install from 3.0e DVD followed by immediate update to 3.0g (remove the DVD and don't start Libronix until all this is done). You won't lose Licence, Resources, Preferences or User Files in this process.

I think I have discovered why my John Owen Hebrews set ins't unlocked in my Version 3 but is unlocked in version 4. I purchased it by CD delivery and never loaded it into my Libronix laptop. It was only added to my Logos 4 computer by auto synch. My licenses are all synched between my Logos 4 computer (of course), and my Libronix Version 3 laptop. But the CD code was never entered. I assume this means it is "unlocked" but not "activated" on my Libronix setup.

If the above assumption is correct, it seems to be a snafu "grey" area that should be fixed.

My licenses are all synched between my Logos 4 computer (of course), and my Libronix Version 3 laptop. But the CD code was never entered. I assume this means it is "unlocked" but not "activated" on my Libronix setup.

If unlocked in Account Summary how can they be "not activated"? If the licence is synchronised between Logos4 computers and also synchronised to your L3 then a serial number is immaterial. If purchased by CD delivery how come it was "auto synch'd" to L4?

I'm not convinced about the logic but you can check with Customer Service. I think it is an L3 "cache" issue hence my previous post.

Something tells me that those Owen files might be corrupt or possibly have some sort of Windows permissions lock on them. Try deleting those files (assuming you have a copy elsewhere) and then downloading them (instead of overwriting).

I don't know if that helps, but if Logos4 knows you have something unlocked, I would expect the license file you get emailed from this link, will also have your resources unlocked.

Something tells me that those Owen files might be corrupt or possibly have some sort of Windows permissions lock on them. Try deleting those files (assuming you have a copy elsewhere) and then downloading them (instead of overwriting).

I have sent CS an email. I deleted the Owen files, reinstalled from the CD but they are still locked. I could understand the CD files could be corrupt but i get the same result when I download "install to previous version" link from my orders history page. Strange. But I'm sure CS will get it right, They always do. [:D]

Incidently, The Calvin commentary on Hebrews says it was translated by John Owen. It shows up under Owen's works in my Library view. Should that be?

Good thing you weren't. I was mistaken.

I seem to be having a tug-of-war with a passive-agressive Windows 7 permissions policy. I am not yet familiar with Win7 and I thought I was running everything as Administrator. The install programs for the third party Libronix CDs acted as if they were installing. I didn't get any kind of warnings, questions or dim screens. I also did not get anything succesfully installed until I fired it up each time as adnin.

I used the purge.bat and re-installed as you directed after upgrading to 3.0g. Now I am well on my way to reconstructing my whole library in Libronix. The Owen's Hebrews set is still messed up. It seems all the rest is going fine if I run each as admin.

Evidently I must install all of the following from CDs. I can't identify their files on the ftp server.

3.0c was the first version prepared for Vista and any Setup/Admin bugs were sorted by 3.0e. So you have a good foundation for Windows 7 installation and Update. Your other CD's would then install via the v3.0e/g Update program as long as you were running in an Admin account and kept the CD in the drive after starting Libronix (like you say, no warnings - just NOTHING). It was definitely easier in XP.

Thanks. Things are really on a roll now. Customer Service took care of a few licensing details and I've downloaded the Works of Luther files. Apparently the old versions of the Nelson "Lifeworks" collections are not hosted on the Logos ftp. I still have all the CDs so I guess I have to do it the old fashioned way. [C]

I have these original Lifeworks: R.C. Sproul, MacArthur, Stanley, J. Vernon McGee, Lucado, Jeremiah, Maxwell and Bill Bright. I also have eBible Platinum on Cd which may have a few unique titles. I sure wish Nelson had an ftp site. It must be hiding behind their retail download storefront.

Now if I can get Jing to run correctly with my Windows7 Ultimate, I will post a couple pics of my directory structure for Dave to explain. It does not resemble anything like Vista and has different names than what Logos says it should have. Even with the differences, I love Win7.

Win 7 tries to do a "back flip" for XP users. The initial Explorer file structure exposes:

Libraries

Documents
Music
Pictures

Computer

Select Drive + Users + {username} to see:-

My Documents
My Music
My Pictures

Libraries is a logical structure which incorporates some well-known user folders by default, but you can add other folders. It is convenient for quick access but I don't use it to update/create files because of some bad experiences with the beta! I use the more regular folder hierarchy of (My) Computer. Despite the My prefix the address bar, when clicked, will show the physical path as per Vista.
