Please allow us to set a time for Logos to download updates like we can for Windows Updates!!!

I am capped at 450mb download except from 2:00am to 7:00am ET. Please allow us to set a time to update so we don't have to get up in the middle of the night to start downloading! I have asked about this since November and NEVER gotten a response from anyone at Logos about why this is not possible. I know there are a lot of users that have the SAME problem.

I bet that now that 4.0d has shipped and the COM API is available, there's a way to do it programmatically. You can set Automatically Download Updates to "Yes" so that you won't have to be present to give any confirmation. Then you can use COM API to write a little script to execute the command in Logos "update resources" and then use Windows Scheduler to schedule that script to run at 2AM. I haven't learned how to use COM API yet, but maybe someone who has (hint, hint: JimT) knows how to write such a script and could make it available to others on the Files forum.

Thanks Rosie, but that also means that Logos can now add that setting in the program itself which would make it easier for people like myself.

Yes, indeed. I didn't mean to imply that your suggestion wasn't a valid one. I just know it takes them time to add new features to their "to be implemented" list and then time for them to impelement them. If there's an available workaround in the meantime, I was just nudging our resident COM API expert to help make it happen. But I know he's busy and might not even notice this thread, so no promises. And of course it would be much nicer to have the scheduling capability built right in to Logos, and I would vote for that feature too as I know a lot of users do have bandwidth limitations (I'm fortunate in that I don't).

It also ought to be considered for people that are charged by the amount of download and have even less convenient options than I have. I know people overseas that have really racked up a bill for all of these downloads not to mention the indexing problem which some of us still are having. All of the heat from the process isn't good for a computer... and indexing just crashed on Logos 4 again while I was typing this and hasn't left an error log again... Maybe Logos 3 ought to still be in development for those who don't have fast connections or inexpensive download options. The way the economy is going high speed technology is already slowing and will become worse in countries that are worse off than we are.

Great idea!

I would rather Logos add better download control, and ability to have at least "Critical/Required" updates being distinct from simple resource updates. However, your idea suggests a simple workaround as an option.

1) Set Logos4 to normally have Automatic Updates set of off

2) Have a tiny program that uses the COM API of Logos4 to trigger commands

In this case, it would need to:

Start Logos4 if it was not already running at, e.g. 2 am
Set automatic downloads to YES
run "Update Resources

What would be more tricky, is to manage making sure any downloading was completed by, e.g.5 am. Or to limit it to no more than xxx MB until after the 20th of the month.

The COM API can't do things that just are not in the core application in some manner.

Does anyone want a simple tool per above, as Rosie has suggested?

I would!!! Turning it off at 7:00 am is much better than getting up at 2!
