Looks like the very first retail product run by Logos 4 will be released in August.  I just emailed IVP about upgrade pricing.  I will post their answer when I get a reply.

NEW: ACCS CD-ROM Complete 29 Volume Set

About the ACCS

The Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture does what very few of today's students of the Bible could do for themselves. With the aid of computer technology, the vast array of writings from the church fathers - including much that is available only in the ancient languages - have been combed for their comment on Scripture.

From these results, scholars with a deep knowledge of the fathers and a heart for the church have hand selected material for each volume, shaping, annotating and introducing it to today's readers. Each portion of commentary has been chosen for its salient insight, its rhetorical power and its faithful representation of the consensual exegesis of the early church.

Included on cd-rom is the full text of all 29 commentaries from the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture series, covering the entire Bible. This ACCS CD-ROM Complete Set includes:

OLD TESTAMENT
Volume 1: Genesis 1-11

Edited by Andrew Louth. The range of commentary spans from the first century to the eighth. The six days of creation proved especially attractive among the fathers. Particularly helpful is Louth's supply of Septuagintal alternative readings to the Masoretic text. 204 pages.

Volume 2: Genesis 12-50

Varied in texture and nuance, the interpreters cited provide a wealth of ancient wisdom, some appearing here in English translation for the first time. Edited by Mark Sheridan. 392 pages.

Volume 3: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy

Editor Joseph T. Lienhard displays a treasure house of ancient wisdom that speaks with eloquence to the church today. 382 pages.

Volume 4: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1-2 Samuel

Edited by John Franke. 458 pages.

Volume 8: Psalms 51-150

The church fathers employed the Psalms widely. Especially noteworthy is their use of Psalms in the great doctrinal controversies. The Psalms were used to oppose subordinationism, modalism, Arianism, Apollinarianism, Nestorianism, Eutychianism and Monophysitism, among others. 499 pages.

Volume 9: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon

Commentary from a large cast of church fathers, some of whose work is translated here into English for the first time. 434 pages.

Edited by Steven A. McKinion, this volume offers readers access to materials ranging from East to West and from the first through the eighth centuries, some appearing in English translation for the first time. 324 pages.

Volume 11: Isaiah 40-66

The excerpts included in this volume offer us a rich array of differing styles, principles and theological emphases from Theodoret of Cyr to Eusebius and Procopius, to Cyril of Alexandria, Jerome and Augustine. 349 pages.

Volume 12: Jeremiah, Lamentations

Readers will find some ancient authors translated into English here for the first time. Throughout they will gain insight and encouragement in the life of faith as seen through ancient pastoral eyes. Edited by Dean Wenthe. 373 pages.

Volume 13: Ezekiel, Daniel

Over forty church fathers are cited in the commentary on Ezekiel, some of whom are here translated into English for the first time. A similar array of fathers are found within the commentary on Daniel. Edited by Kenneth Stevenson and Michael Glerup. 378 pages.

Volume 1b: Matthew 14-28

This rich abundance of patristic comment, much of it presented here in English translation for the first time by editor Manlio Simonetti, provides a bountiful and varied feast of ancient interpretation of the First Gospel. 344 pages.

Volume 2: Mark (2nd Edition)

An abundance of commentary on Mark's Gospel has been discovered among the early fathers, embedded and interleaved amidst the textual archives of patristic homilies, apologies, letters, commentaries, theological treatises and hymnic verses. Edited by Thomas Oden and Christopher Hall. 284 pages.

Volume 3: Luke

Edited by Arthur A. Just. 444 pages.

Volume 7: 1-2 Corinthians (2nd Edition)

This Ancient Christian Commentary on 1-2 Corinthians opens a whole new way of reading these New Testament texts. Edited by Gerald Bray. 349 pages.

Volume 8: Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians

The expository voices of Jerome, Origen, Augustine, Chrysostom, Ambrosiaster, Theodoret, Marius Victorinus and Theodore of Mopsuestia speak again, some in English translation for the first time. 318 pages.

Volume 9: Colossians, 1-2 Thess., 1-2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon

Edited by Peter Gorday. 346 pages.

Volume 10: Hebrews

As in other Ancient Christian Commentary volumes, the excerpts chosen range widely over geography and time from Justin Martyr and Clement of Rome in the late first and early second century to The Venerable Bede, Isaac of Nineveh, Photius and John of Damascus in the eighth and ninth centuries. 292 pages.

Volume 11: James, 1-2 Peter, 1-3 John, Jude

Edited by Gerald Bray. 288 pages.

Volume 12: Revelation

This ACCS volume edited by William C. Weinrich draws heavily on the two Greek commentaries from Oecumenius and Andrew of Caesarea to represent Eastern interpretation, while focusing on six other commentaries as primary witnesses to Western interpretation. You know, I assume, that this sort of breach of etiquette led Logos to impose forums rules that it asks us to enforce internally. Please edit your posts ... there have been multiple offenders in the last few days. And posting as a quote presents exactly the same problems as the original.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Those of us who purchased the Vol 1 CD, 12 vols, know that this is a great resource. We'll also be interested to see what IVP and Logos can do to allow us an upgrade path. I'd rather purchase through Logos than through a competitor, if the price is fair.

I have a question that are raised by the various advertisements I see for this set:

    • Some sites are offering separate editions for the Mac and for the PC - can anybody verify this?  If it is true, you will need to be careful as to which edition you are purchasing.

    Thank you for any insight.

    Blessings,
    Floyd

What IVP calls the "Windows Version" and the "Macintosh Version" are really the Logos version and the Accordance version, respectively.  So if
you have Logos4Mac, you should still get the Windows version, but you might have to jump through some hoops to get the license activated (like installing Logos3 for Windows, or calling support).  Or you could wait until it's available on logos.com in a platform-independent, downloadable version (probably the easiest way).

Thanks Todd - the sites where I saw the two versions did not make this clear at all - just Windows version and Mac version.  In fact, I began my price search with the Mac version - and saw the problem before I placed my order.

Is there a link on the LOGOS site to where this can be purchased for L4?  If not, it might be appropriate to give some hints as to where users can purchase it - even if it goes against the EULA.

Nothing yet, other that this post from Kent Hendricks at Logos: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/17632/132880.aspx#132880

There's other info in that thread too.

Looks like the very first retail product run by Logos 4 will be released in August

This CD-ROM is powered by LOGOS 4

Hmm.......This claim raises a lot of other questions:

    1) Does it only include the search engine?

    2) Does it require an internet connection and synch with the "cloud?"

    3) Will it ship with the current Logos 4 that is built on Microsoft's .Net Framework 3.5 or will it wait for the "new" Logos 4 that will be built on .Net Framework 4 released in April?

    4) Will this work with Logos Version 3?

    5) Does it really matter anyway?

Hmm.......This claim raises a lot of other questions:

    1) Does it only include the search engine?

Just like CDs from Publishing Partners in the past it will probably include the core program, the books of the collection and the KJV.

    2) Does it require an internet connection and sync with the "cloud?"

No more or less than any other version of Logos 4. If you want to keep up to date you will have to connect at some time.

    3) Will it ship with the current Logos 4 that is built on Microsoft's .Net Framework 3.5 or will it wait for the "new" Logos 4 that will be built on .Net Framework 4 released in April?

That depends on if Logos has added .Net Framework 4 to Logos 4 at the time the CDs are pressed. By mid to late summer I would think Logos will have done this.

    4) Will this work with Logos Version 3?

Probably only by installing the L4 CD, making sure L4 has synced the license and syncing your copy of L3 and then downloading the books from Logos' FTP.

    5) Does it really matter anyway?

I am sure for some people it will, but very few.

I'm skeptical about this.  The Complete Set product page on the IVP website has the Libronix logo on the box image and the system requirements on that page are definitely not Logos 4 system requirements [:P]:

"System requirements: Windows 98 and beyond, Pentium II 350MHz (Pentium III 700MHz recommended), 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended), CD-ROM drive, 800 x 600 display (1024 x 768 recommended), Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later."

IVP does not have the new product posted yet. You were looking at the Vol. I page.

Look at the image of the box carefully under NEW:

The Complete Set product page is accessible from the Future Books page under "October", and I was looking at that image on that page.  It says Libronix Digital Library System 4.0, and it has the old Libronix logo.  So, in spite of the "4.0" designation, it seems to be branded incorrectly, which probably means that it's a pre-production image.  Plus see the minimal hardware requirements on that page: if it is Logos4 based, I hope people aren't buying it hoping it runs on a machine described by those requirements.

I'm really dis-heartened at the fact that I had just bought and opened the Vol I CD-Rom version for $270, when I could have just waited another month for the full version for $240.

I am upset that a company would be so money grubbing as to pull such a scheme on the customers. Why couldn't they put the ALL of the books on one cd???

    This makes me angry.

This is not fair... This is a greedy, greedy deception.

    1Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

If you did not buy it from Logos, then no you can't. I thought you were angry at Logos for the deception. Now it appears maybe you meant IVP. If you bought it from them directly or from a Christian book retailer or Amazon.com, I'm not sure Logos can do anything for you with respect to a refund. But do call Customer Service to ask.

As you probably know, over time sometimes products come down in cost. When this first volume was produced, the price was probably set fairly. Then as the remaining volumes were being completed, perhaps it became clear that it would be more cost effective for them to sell it in a bundle so the price came down. Just as if you bought a PC years ago you would have paid twice as much (or more) as what you'd pay now for an even more powerful PC. It's an unfortunate legacy of the online sales mechanism that old products lying around sometimes still sell for the higher prices that were set for them when they were first produced. Probably something should be done to bring the prices down to be fairer given future product availability, but that does take time and human interaction and sometimes people overlook these things. I hope you will forgive whoever is responsible for that oversight. And I hope you'll get satisfaction on the refund and will be happy with the multi-volume product once it is available.
