Which Ipad to buy

I am a missionary in Madagascar where the broadband is not that broad and the 3G is infantile. I am concidering buying an Ipad to read and use my logos resources. Does anyone have any recommendations on the size and if I should buy the 3G connection ?

Richard, the size would be Dependant on what you will use it for... if only for Logos, the 8 gig is large enough... but I suspect that you would use it for much more, maybe even video and such which would take up a lot of space. Since the difference in cost from 16gig to 64 gig is not that great considering what it would cost if you got too small of one to start, I would suggest that you go with the 64 gig and use it for all that you can, rather than be limited in a year or two, or even sooner if you found a lot of uses for it. Just my opinion.

You can download Logos books for use offline, but that makes them only available for reading, not for searching. I have wi-fi (not 3G) because I don't want the extra bill. I primarily use it at home and at church, and I have wi-fi access those two places. As for size, I always think bigger is better, though over time memory gets cheaper.

There is no 8gb version, so 16gb is the smallest. It is more than adequate for Logos. Unless you're placing full-length movies on it, it should hold all of the programs and music that you need.

It is up to you whether you need the 3G. I know the AT&T pricing in the US for data, but I don't know how much it costs in Madagascar, nor even which carrier it is. I don't think you can go wrong with the wifi-only.

I saw a 64 GB iPad with 3G at Best Buy a couple of days ago, which had been marked down from $1,029 to $974, because the box had been opened. I don't need 64 GB, however I was tempted. Last night I pulled up the Apple Store on my iPod and saw that same iPad for $829.

Honestly, in your situation, I would get a laptop. Without a connection you will not be able to search, do passage guide, etc.

Don't get me wrong. I love my iPad and use it almost exclusively when I am reading, but not when I am researching. Which is a bummer when I am away from the internet and would like to do a quick search, etc.

Just to let you know I have a MacBook Pro. I am just waiting for the Mac Logos 4 to catch up with the PC Logos. I primarily will use the IPad to read and whatever.

I have a top of the line laptop, but try lugging it to Russia and back. My serious work will still be done on my laptop and desktop, but reading on the iPad is the future.

Maybe I should have saved my money, but I putchased the 64 GB iPad 3G Sunday evening, and for the first time I can read Logos resources without my eyes hurting. Furthermore, the iPad is far easier to lug around than any laptop. The iPad gets my vote.
