Calvin's Font

I don't know if this issue would occur with other resources or not. I've noticed it with Calvin's Commentaries. I have several bibles open in one pane and a few commentaries open in another. Generally it looks like this:

Notice the NKJV on the left is rendered in Calabri, my default font, but Calvin's Commentary is in Times New Roman (?). If I bring up the preferences and change my default font to something else (this happens in the left pane) I see Calvin change in response. Then I change back to Calibri and so does Calvin, but when I come back to the Bible and finish what I was reading there, and then navigate to another book of the Bible -- Calvin follows because he's linked, but changes back to Times New Roman.

Anybody else? Any idea why this resource insists on being rendered in a font other than my default? Should I post logs? And if so, let me know what you want me to do between opening up L4 and archiving the logs (i.e. what do you want to see in the logs?)

This is a bug that has been reported previously. It has to do with a multi-volume set (like Calvin's commentaries, or Pillar Commentary, etc) that the new volume in the series that is opened does not get set the the correct font when a new book of the Bible is navigated to.

We have the bug logged in our bug database and it's scheduled to be fixed.

I'm pretty sure it came in with Office 2008, which I don't use if I can help it these days.

Well, maybe.

I googled for Calibri and read the Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calibri

According to the article, Microsoft distributes Powerpoint 2007 Viewer for free (but only for PCs) which includes Calibri and several other fonts.

I have checked this on the church's PC just now. I downloaded the free viewer, installed it, and then navigated from the Start menu to the C drive, WINDOWS, Fonts, and there found Calibri and others newly installed. I opened Word 2003 and was able to use Calibri there.

So, it seems to me that MicroSoft is perfectly happy to give you these fonts for free and let you use them (not just for viewing purposes). I hope there's nothing sketchy in these next steps:

From that "Fonts" folder on the PC you hypothetically have accesses to, you can drag and drop, or copy and paste the fonts to a flash drive. These are then easily dragged from the flash drive to whichever Fonts folder on your Mac you want to use. This should work; I've done it before (though not with these fonts). I can't see why MicroSoft would care that you move the fonts they gave you to a computer other than the one used to download them, but choose to read the fine print if you're worried about this. You will need to restart your system before the new fonts show up in your font menus, I think.

Calibri font family purchase for personal use is $ 120 => http://www.ascenderfonts.com/font/calibri-family.aspx

Looking at Amazon, "Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition" is bit less than Calibri family of 4 fonts.

Microsoft offers free 30 day trial for Office 2008 => http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/Office2008/trial-download.mspx

By the way, also read Wikipedia Calibri article => downloaded "Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.1.5" => read license agreement, which includes:

2. FONT COMPONENTS. While the Office for Mac software is running, you may use its fonts to display and print content. You may only

• embed fonts in content as permitted by the embedding restrictions in the fonts; and

• temporarily download them to a printer or other output device to help print content.
