Quick way to compare how various English versions translate a particular Hebrew or Greek word

Does anyone know a query method that will give a report of how various English Bible translations translate a particular Greek or Hebrew word?

I do this all the time and I currently do it semimanualiy by looking in the Text Comparison. Then I manually (pen and paper--imaging that!) build my report. I often then make PowerPoint slides of this report. Is there a quicker way?

One way that i like to locate occurrences of words (rare occurrence words) is to use Visual Filters. Then use the Locator bar to navigate between them.

If you wanted a report on usage of all occurrences of a word across multiple translations:

You could use Passage List to control only the verses of interest.

Use the Search tool to find all occurrences of a word.
Then in the Search tool, have it create a Passage List (click on Search icon and select Save as Passage List)
Now you have every verse that the word was found in (you can edit this list if you want specific verses)
create a new Search using the Passage List where you would normally specify verse range
select which Bible translations to search in (you can also make a collection for specific Bibles)
Then use the Analyze display and drag the Reference to sort by verse location.

Then with the new feature in 4.0d, you can Export it to Excel (or a different form). This allows you to generate a report in which you can edit it outside of L4.

i sorted by Column B, then removed columns in which i was not interested.

Note: we can see that the NLT is not a desired version, so if i was doing this for real, i would create a Collection without the NLT in it. This may also reveal poor tagging of translation to the original language (but they are few and could be manually edited in Excel)

Note2: after you have edited your Excel chart, it can be copied and pasted into Power Point.

Yet another way to display the usage of a word is in the analysis view, drag the Result to the top to sort by it. Then collapse all the categories.

The previous posts show using the manuscript form of a word. But if you want the lemma form you can use Bible Word Study

The word circle shows how the word was translated into english

If you really want to dig down, you can use Search tool with Morph or Syntax to locate the specific morphology or syntax of how the word was used. i will not show examples for these. Forgive me for cluttering your post.

You bring up an interesting idea. Being able to see in one place how a single Greek or Hebrew word is translated by all the versions you choose is something I would use. I do like you do right now writing things down while looking at the Text Comparison tool.

BTW: If Logos would create this (hint, hint) it would help to group identical translations rather than just list them straight out one by one as in Text Comparison.

Also remember that the Passage Analysis' Cluster graph can give you some idea of what versions are similar to each other. It is, however, somewhat difficult to know how useful the graph's analysis is.

Yes this gives the data we need, however in somewhat difficult to use form unless you limit the search just to one verse. Since the results are ordered by number of hits per verse, not in canonical order, this can make the one verse I am interested in difficult to find unless I take this extra step in setting up the search. It just would be nice for Logos to take care of all of this and generate a report that summarizes the wanted information and doesn't reguire I set up a search in a specific way to find it.

BTW: Right now any search results are limited, as expected, to only those versions for which there is a reverse interlinear. I am usually interested in comparing all my English versions, which wouldn't be possible unless Logos creates RIs for all of them which I doubt there is good reason (other than this one) to do.

I agree and am glad you have made the suggestion.

It turns out that the suggestion was unnecessary, you need to click on Reference (either the blue box or the column header and it will re-order the results in canonical order. Thanks to Fred Chapman for the heads up on my suggestion thread.
