indexing 183 hours and climbing

After updating to A26 an icon showed up on the menu bar and showed 160 hours if indexing. Now it shows 183 hours and it keeps climbing.
I have a 2.4 ghz intel core i5 running 10.6.4 and I have 4 gb of memory.
I have turned off sleep modes.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Bob,
I don't have a Mac but wonder how long the indexer has actually been running? The estimates it gives are way high. My '160 hour' tasks usually complete in 8-12 hours or less. That's when I have a complete re-index to accomplish.
If you've been at it for 12 hours and it says 183 left, then you have a problem.

Anyone who seeks to help you will need log files. See Item #6 in the first link in my signature (Start Here!) for instructions on setting up and posting log files.

I began the process of sending a log file. Part of the process was to shut down the indexing icon in the menu bar. After restarting the program it has not returned. Would it be right to assume that the indexing just got hung up last time I started the program? I did a search in the program itself and everything seems to be working fine.

Hard to say. Try doing a search on your whole library for a common word like 'God'. See if you get hits in most of your resources.

I've noticed this behavior myself in A25. I have little to no programming background, but it seems sometimes the indexer either loses track of itself or the computer stop allocating resources to finish the indexing job. I noticed this after my indexing job kept climbing, so I checked up on it in Activity Monitor. It said it was only allocating .2% of my 8 GBs of ram. The rest was free. I just quit Logos, reopened it, and used the reindex command. Then it charged right through!

640,000 results in 381 resources (my library contains 482). that sound about right?
