Can this default be changed?

When I bring up a resource I have not looked at, it seems to default to all my notes files under the three concentric circles icon are checked and on - for example, Geneva Bible Study Notes are on for any Bible.  Most times I want to turn them all off, I go in and uncheck everything.

Is there a way so the default of these is OFF, and then I can turn them on when I need to? I didn't want to just start playing with Setting not knowing what I am doing!
