Oh No! Not more 3D book cover illustrations!

Dear Logos.

Can I please put in a request for a return to simple 'straight on', flat-pack book jacket illustrations for future pre-pubs. I know that you provide author and description details in your write up but it's so much easier to get a feel for the book when you can see it's cover face on. I sometimes even try to have a look at a hard copy before buying from Logos and this is easier to do if you've properly seen the cover. 3D is fine for giving a sense of size for a collection or series of books, but when you are simply considering a single book -  I'd like to see it 'close up and personal'.

Sorry - whinge over! Super Angry

I usually use Amazon for that purpose. You get much information about most books there.

The new graphics are bit sterile as every book is the same size and really doesn't look very realistic.  Each to his / her own, but prefer the old style Amazon cover art.

i just assumed they were what Logos makes up to make a PD work look a bit more fresh.

Yes, and the art work is usually quite nice. But just a freshened front cover would be sufficient. The fake 3D books are not necessary and are somewhat deceptive because they're all the same width. We will see the book covers in 2D once they're in Logos so I think it best to just show them in 2D on the website as well.

And Logos tends to shelve their virtual books in reverse order:

Shouldn't volume 1 be on the left? [:)]

At least you see how serious Logos is about the Hebrew language [:D]

Just to clarify, the books are not to scale.  In real life they are also more than 2 inches high. [;)]

    PS
For those reading along... I am not in the art department and have nothing to do with the graphics.  As the smiley in my post indicates, I am just having some fun with my good friend Rosie.

The 3D books may look slick, but they are simply just not as easy to read. Perhaps we need proper 3D that springs out of your computer and rotates before your eyes, with us all wearing our special lOgOs glasses that we've just got cheap through 'Community Bidding'! [:D]

    Ha ha! [:D]

Loved the way you spelled out the glasses. I can just picture them!

I think it's reasonable to not have just a cover view for complete sets, as it gives you a much better sense of what you're actually buying (at least it would if the books were to scale). Which would you pay $180 for?

    image    or    image

That said, the image on the right doesn't give an accurate sense of the resource either. One of those volumes as 48 pages. Another has 349! Like to guess which is which from the image above?

In the good old days, Logos used to take photos of real books and use them in their marketing. It was so much better.

The actual page-counts carry much more meaning than the graphics.

I like the slick 3D images as a label, but a real photo to know what we are buying.

My hope is that Logos will load all kinds of stuff into a massive product database, and drive the new web site from that. Make a nice schema, and load up all kinds of stuff. Currently, we can't trust whats on the products page, as many other messages have posted. (Mostly refering here, to what package something is included in, and hence what we might already have etc.)

Hey Mark, COOL GRAPHICS!!  I actually like all of the above: Cover and stacks.

I do hope Logos comes up with a real, virtual, book shelf that you can slide over.   (your beautiful bib. report app notwithstanding, Mark!)  I'd even take up an inch or two across the top of my screen for a full length view of my books as if they were on a shelf (scrollable, of course, and choosable, too!)

    I like Apples.  Especially Honeycrisp.

something weird is happening.  I tried signing on and it would not let me (my logos account) on the church desktop (xculture)  I used another email account (which had never been a sign on) and it worked.  xculture1 didn't work.

And the odd thing is, i see your reply saying 'xculture1" but my post above I only see "Dan DeVilder".  What is going on?

The only thing I know is Rosie talked about changing my message tools to "enhanced" earlier this morning, which is all I did.  And now I have a majorly screwed up logos account.  weird.

I'm sorry if something I suggested to you caused your account to get screwed up. I don't see how that could have happened, but if I'm responsible for it, I apologize. If you're still having problems with it, try going back to the regular editor. And if that doesn't fix it, you might need to contact Logos tech support. [:(]

Yes Joe, but strangely most pre-pubs shown within Logos itself appear as the 3D variety - at least on my PC recently.

lol, Rosie, no apology necessary.  What you instructed is what I did, and should not in any way have affected it.  This is an ongoing issue that is a bit larger, I discovered.  No clue what happened, and Logos is involved.

They can do that because if they put them in reverse order, then instead of his face, the picture on the cover would look like:
