Question About The Speed of Authoring New Notes

This is not a complaining post--just an inquisitive one. I have never used Notes on the Windows side of L4, so I don't know how to compare the speed of authoring notes in Mac vs. the speed of the Windows version.

This may be a known issue, but in authoring notes in L4M, there is a noticeable and persistent delay between typing letters, words, and even whole phrases before they ever appear on the screen. I will type a few words and then the spinning rainbow appears. After a few seconds the letters or words I just typed finally appear on the screen. The process is so tedious and time consuming as to discourage me from trying to add any notes of any length, at least for now.

Is this the way it works on the Windows side too? I completely understand if this is an Alpha issue, but did not want to assume as much. Is this a known issue? Is it a temporary issue?

Thanks so much to the amazing progress that has been made. You devs definitely deserve a raise, and you have my permission to forward this on to Mr. Pritchett!Wink

I've noticed the same thing, although it is not consistent. I have not done a lot of work with notes on the Windows side but I do not recall any similar problems.

Cameron and other Mac devs have noticed the same issue. We'll be working on Note editing speed, but we wanted to give users something they could use and test out as soon as we felt it was stable enough.

It's a known issue. It's incredibly annoying. A couple of things that I'd love to know from anyone experiencing this issue:

    1) How many notes documents do you have? How many notes do you have in those documents (on average).

    2) How many total documents do you have (Reading Plans, Clippings, Notes, etc).

This is definitely something we want to have fixed. As Tom mentions, we wanted to get something out to users to begin playing with it so that we can find issues like this and determine how widespread they are.

Also, and I'll keep banging this drum, please take it easy on old, major notes with these early iterations of this feature. We're in an alpha development stage, which means there are still bugs. We've worked hard to minimize the consequences of any bugs, but there is still a risk that data would be affected, so be cautious when testing.
