Old preacher joke: "Therefore" points back to what came just before, to explain what the next words are there for. <grin>
I'd be happy to discuss this further with you offline at my e-mail address.

Therefore is a logical consequence of what had been stated in v3, so Paul proceeds to paints a picture of what is meant by (or a consequence of) baptism into Christ and into His death.
Searches and tools can be useful but here I would use Passage Guide and a good word study of Ro 6:3-4 eg. Wuest's or Vincent's "Word Studies".

With a curious twist - anyone know any research material on whether Paul favored rabbinic or Greek logic? It hadn't occurred to me to wonder before.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Should I have left the word "logical" out of my comment?

Never - nothing like the word 'logic' to pique my interest ... but then again a good linguistic puzzle does come close.
