How can I find all the occurrences of the Piel and Hithpael forms of a Hebrew verb?
Or better yet, how can I search a lemma and have it give me all results organized by verb stems?
Run a lemma search and use the Analysis view sorted by stem
This can be done fairly easily with the analysis view of the bible search
The way I would do this is to open an Reverse -Interlinear Bible (in the example I am using the ESV) and select the Word you want.
Right click on the word and insure Lemma is selected, then "search this resource"
When the search is complete insure "Analysis" view is selected if it is not already
When the analysis screen is complete scroll over to the "stem" column and drag it above the column tabs (as illustrated in the screen shot above) by holding down the left mouse button and dragging it up.
You list will now be sorted by verb stems
This method will work with any of the colmun titles in the analysis search and you can sort by multiple columns. For example it you were to drag the "stem" column header and then the result column header the list will sort first by stem and then by result in each stem.
Didn't mean to step on you Kevin, I was putting my response together while you were keep it short and sweet.[:)]

I figured that's what happened. No worries, I don't mind if someone comes along with a more in-depth answer. [:)]
thanks Kevin and Fred!
is there a way to export a verse list from this (lets say of all the Piel verses)?
I'm having a hard time imagining what you are trying to do. What are your search terms?
The analysis view exports to Excel where you could do some slicing and dicing (deleting columns and rows) until you just have a list of verses that has the Piel. Then you could save to a txt file and import back into Logos.
Or, you could use ANDEQUALS or WITHIN 0 WORDS (depending on your original search) to limit your results to just one stem and do a regular verses search result and then "Save as a Passage List"
You could do a Morph search for your lemma with @Vp after it (which will restrict it to just piel stem verbs). You could even use OR to get both piel and hithpael verbs. E.g., lemma:הלך:1@Vp OR lemma:הלך:1@Vt. Then choose Save as Passage List from the panel menu. I got the correct format for the Morph search by right clicking on a verb in ESV, choosing the Lemma tab on the right side, and then choosing Morph Search.
Here's the Passage List generated:

I tried this but the Excel file was not organized by verb stem like I had it in Logos.[:'(]
Rosie,
The search is working, thanks. I was able to make the passage list but I'm not understanding how I can export this out of Logos and into Word or something (the "save" part)
Basically what I want is exactly what you have in the top morph search pic, but I want to be able to copy and paste that into Word somehow. Ideally with the highlights intact.

in Excel, select all cells which have data in them (hopefully when you opened a .CSV file you had it delimit by comma which would have put data into rows & columns).
Then on the menu click on Data, in the drop down select Sort. Then in the pop-up, select the column in which Stem occurs and also select Descending.(the image below shows how this sorting put the stems in order, notice the blue text)
Neat, thanks. Now if I could just get Rosie's morph results into Excell...
(I really appreciate everyone's help BTW)

if you are just wanting the Morph results in Excel, you don't need to add them to a Passage List.
in the search window, click on the tab's menu and select export. And save it as a .csv file. The you can use Excel to open that .csv file (remember when Excel prompts you on Delimiters, select delimiter button and in the next window check comma and then press the Finish button)
Edit: here is the fish.3515.lemma walk Morph.xls
Edit2: colums rearranged
7853.lemma walk Morph.xls
And save it as a .csv file. The you can use Excel to open that .csv file (remember when Excel prompts you on Delimiters, select delimiter button and in the next window check comma and then press the Finish button)
Just double-checking but doesn't this have problems when there can be commas in the text? Or is it just habit that I always use a .txt file and make it tab delimited?
mmm...yes you are right MJ. Guess this old dog is used to having data saved via comma delimiting (engineering stuff). i wasn't aware that Export used tab delimiting of its columns, Thanks. [wonder if this old dog (me) will remember this tomorrow? [:)] ]
Edit: well it appears that export uses line delimiting from the analysis search window to a .txt file. see below
So i will stay with csv files. Yes it requires some extra work. but for me i will take it over having to deal with the above.
Edit2: seems the preferred way to export is using .xml for Excel. It will alleviate the problem with commas in the text and it assigns the columns properly. fiw
or try exporting as Excel and bypass the import entirely?
isn't this a new feature in the Beta?
does this print/export the way we have is sorted & aligned ?
Picky, picky ... yes, it's the beta (sorry) .. and yes, one does want to change the one column to right aligned.
sorry (lol)....its the old engineer in me looking for every detail.[:)] Thanks for the info

Well, for that you'll need the new Export feature which is in 4.1 beta. And it's still not quite finished yet. It doesn't keep the columns intact (though that has been reported as a bug and acknowledged by Logos):
If you're running the beta, from the search results panel menu, select Print/Export..., choose Copy to Clipboard, then paste into Word. Unfortunately I've just encountered a crashing bug when trying to do that, so it isn't ready for prime time. But theoretically that's how you'd do it. Stay tuned for a future beta, or wait until 4.1 ships if you want to be sure you've got a very stable version.
