German Books

Hi,
I would love to be able to buy german Bibles and Commentaries for LOGOS 4 like:
- Neue Genfer Übersetzung
- Elberfelder
- Hoffnung für Alle
- Gute Nachricht
- Wuppertaler Studienbibel
- Zürcher Bibel
The only book that is available in german at the moment is the Luther Bible.
Thanks,
Anatol

[Y][Y][Y] The German Bible Society already offers the most important German Bible translations and a number reference works for Libronix as part of their Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible (among which are three of the six resources you mentioned), but unfortunately none of them are available as individual downloads.

[Y] Good suggestion!
I would also be interested in two other resources published by R.Brockhaus Verlag:
1. Historisch-Theologische Auslegungsreihe
2. Theologisches Begriffslexikon zum Neuen Testament (Neubearbeitete Ausgabe 1997).

Actually, Logos also offers a German translation of Homer's Iliad: http://www.logos.com/products/details/3320

I can't believe there are still products in the Logos catalogue that I haven't stumbled on before. I've attempted to make a systematic review of everything they have on offer, by going through the entire catalogue sorted by price: http://www.logos.com/search?q=deliveryMethod%3aDOWNLOAD+OR+deliveryMethod%3aCD-ROM&view=grid&sort=price%20asc. But that seems to miss this one, and I bet a bunch of others are missing, too. I've heard they have some 15,000 books in their catalogue, but this method only shows 3400 of them. I wonder how to see the entire list. Anybody know?

These are the German resources that I'm aware of:
- Concordia Triglotta—German: The Symbolical Books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
- Das Thomas-Evangelium
- Das Thomasevangelium: Originaltext mit Kommentar
- Die Apostolischen Väter
- Die Bibel nach der Übersetzung Martin Luthers (1984)
- Die Bibel. Einheitsübersetzung
- Die Bibel. Einheitsübersetzung (neue Rechtschreibung)
- Die Bibel. Elberfelder Übersetzung, revidierte Fassung
- Die Heilige Schrift, übersetzt von Hermann Menge
- Die Schrift
- Einführungen und Erklärungen aus der Stuttgarter Erklärungsbibel. Neuausgabe mit Apokryphen
- Elektronische Bibelkunde
- Gute Nachricht Bibel: Mit den Spätschriften des Alten Testaments
- Ilias
- Journal of Hebrew Scriptures: Volume 4 (2002–2003)
- Kleines Lexikon zur Lutherbibel
- Kleines Wörterbuch zum Neuen Testament: Griechisch-Deutsch
- Luther Bibel (1545)
- Luther Bibel (1912)
- Luther Bibel 1545 Die Gantze Heilige Schrifft
- Münchener Neues Testament (Studienübersetzung)
- Namen und Orte der Bibel
- Nestle-Aland: NTG Apparatus Criticus
- The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, Abridged in One Volume
- WiBiLex - Das wissenschaftliche Bibellexikon im Internet
- Wörterbuch zum Alten Testament: Hebräisch/Aramäisch-Deutsch und Hebräisch/Aramäisch-Englisch
- Zürcher Bibel
I'd support more German resources, particularly commentaries like the EKK series.

I don't think the 15,000 figure is accurate. Back in October, it was quoted at 10,000. Although there's been lots of resources since then, I doubt we're up to more than 11,500 by now. Remember too, that a large number of Logos resources (particularly newer ones) are only available as part of a collection, and some resources are not available for purchase from Logos. That probably accounts for the discrepancy between the two figures.

Thanks! I didn't know about these two resources.
I believe there are also a few prepubs which contain articles written in German (and French, Swedish, etc.), e.g. JBL, Journal of Northwest Semitic Languages, The World of the Aramaeans Volumes 2 and 3, Continuum Near Eastern History Collection (I didn't check every prepub, so there may be more).

for purchase from Logos. For this reason some Logos resources can only be found with some difficulty. I'm surprised that Logos doesn't mention the SESB-Ergänzungs-CD anywhere on their website.
Sometimes however the Logos website also conceals the existence of resources which can be bought from Logos. Without the forum I wouldn't, for example, have known about the Thai Holy Bible. This translation isn't listed in any of the product categories, although it does show up when you search for "non-english Bibles".
P.S. Rosie, congratulations and thank you for your 5,000+ posts!!!

Hendrik, I think Logos has rights to sell only the "international" version of SESB: http://www.logos.com/sesb
The German version and Dutch version is offered by the respective Bible Societies. I might be wrong however. I would (and many others, I think) welcome the possibility to order individual resources from the SESB collection. It would be great for example to be able to buy the Apparatuses to the BHS and NA27 without the need to buy whole SESB thing.

Shalom Bohuslav!
Apart from the full version Logos also sells a special version of SESB without all the modern language translations (http://www.logos.com/products/details/6485 ). Latter version can however only be shipped to users in North America.
My surprise was not that only the "international" version of SESB is available for purchase from Logos, but that I couldn't find any mention, if only in passing, that the German Bible Society offers more resources for Logos. There is a page on the website about Logos for the World (http://www.logos.com/world) but this needs to be updated.

it looks to me like I already have major parts of the SESB without owning it-- BHS, NA27, Textual Commentary, etc. What would be missing, I guess, are their specific apparatuses, various editions of the Gospel of Thomas, an some Wörterbücher (how good/necessary are they?) and a slew of foreign language Bibles--I'd want the German ones.
Can anyone comment on the helpfulness/necessity of the lexicons?

The lexicons are very basic. If you have BDAG for the Greek and HALOT or Holladay you have far more than these german dictionaries offer. Not the kind of dictionaries you want to spend your money on.
However, for me the Dutch/German translations and the critical apparatus of the BHS/NA27 are definitely worth the money.

thank you.

I'd like the German translations, especially Die Gute Nachricht (btw, it would be nice if they were iPhone accessible, but they are not). I like the apparatuses, too, but i don't use them as much as I did in seminary. Metzger's is enough for me right now. At least this resource is on my radar now. Not a "must" purchase for me yet, but a "definitely would like". Add it to my "wish list" (hint hint, Logos . . . hope that feature will soon be here [;)])

But there are definitely some titles that don't show up when you sort the entire catalogue by price (as in my link above) which do show up when you search for them specifically. For example Homer's Iliad at $29.95 does not show up anywhere in the sorted-by-price list; I've double checked. I'd like to find a way to display the entire list of available books which will show this and everything, so I can go through it systematically and see if there's anything missing that I might like to order. I managed to find 4601 products by searching for "the": http://www.logos.com/search?q=the&view=grid. That's significantly more than the 3400 you find if you look at all products that are either downloadable or available on CD-ROM (my previous link), which I think are the only two methods of purchasing products so it should cover all of them. There might theoretically be some that don't have the word "the" in their descriptions which would be missed in this search. There seriously ought to be a simple way to show the entire catalogue. I know that will be coming in the website overhaul, but I thought maybe I could find a way to trick this current one into showing me what I want to see. So far no dice.

Actually, you found 4,601 total results. Only 3,249 were products - note the links at the top-right of the search result. If you search for . or *, you can find 3,456. That's almost all of them. So far as I'm able to tell, the only page that lists all resources is this one: http://www.logos.com/products/groups/allitems - if my calculations are right, that lists 3,464 items, including Homer.
(Of course, I agree that this list isn't good enough, and await the new site with anticipation.)

Homer, Statenvertaling, Thai Bible, stainless steel mug, ... As far as I can see, this list is pretty much comprehensive! [:)]

Oh, right. That. I knew that was there but I think I'd blocked it out of my mind because it's so awful. Terribly slow to load and then you can't sort it or view it in a grid layout. And God forbid you should forget caution and actually click on one of the titles (instead of right-clicking, selecting Copy Shortcut, and pasting it into another browser tab)! Then you've got to wait for it to populate all over again when you click Back. Yup. I can't wait for the new website.
