What do you think about the Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament (3 Vols.)?

I would like to buy one more theological lexicon for the OT. Since TDOT is still not available in Logos, I am thinking about the

Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament (3 Vols.)

Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament

What is your experience with that lexicon and is it well suited especially for a sermon preparation? Do you think there would be some better alternative?

EDIT: I have Platinum Library including TWOT.

This would be a good addition. I have it. It is not an exhaustive lexicon, but the words selected are in the editors' minds important Hebrew words. I think reading it and also TWOT is useful. They don't always cover the same ground nor approach a word in the same way. So in a sense they complement each other. For pastoral word I'd probably rank it above HAL. For academic work, I'd pick HAL first.

Thank you Mark. Yes, I have HALOT and I use it quite a lot, although it is too technical for me very often. But for the commentary on the Hebrew words so far I use TWOT but would like to have something a little bit more thorough (although I consider TWOT very good tool for pastors). Is NIDOTTE better (more thorough) than TLOT? Is there any other alternative?

I have the German original of TLOT and I can recommend it. On the other hand some of my fellow students at university preferred NIDOTTE (perhaps because it is in English?). In any case, I think both TLOT and NIDOTTE are more thorough than TWOT.

Thank you Hendrik-Jan. I appreciate your advice. I didn't realize actually that also TLOT has originally been German (it looks most of the lexicons are [:)] ).

OK, I made my mind. I went for NIDOTTE and from my first experience with it, I am happy I did. It looks as exactly what I have been looking for. I don't like it's price of course [N] (there is no Academic Discount for that either). But it looks like well worth of it's money. [Y]

I'm happy to hear you like NIDOTTE!

That's also the reason why I still haven't bought it. I do think it's worth every penny, but there are just too many interesting prepubs. Not to mention the money I have to put aside for the day when TDOT becomes available in Logos! [:S]

What is this Academic discount you are referring to?

Ted, there is a special program for students and teachers. You might get more information about the conditions etc. here. If it applies to you, it is the best way how to get resources. Of course not all of them are included in the program and for some of them (like NIDOTTE) the academic price is the same as the regular price.
