Reftagger wordpress plug-in and wp-Typography

The Reftagger plugin is incompatible with the wp-Typography plugin. The latter makes typographical changes to the content which means reftagger no longer recognizes some book names. I wonder if it is possible to modify reftagger so it does its stuff before wp-Typography sees the text?

I sent a request to customer support about 3-4 weeks ago but have had no response at all.

I haven't used wordpress since 2.0 but in the dusty confines of my memory isn't there /wasn't there a prioritizer in the dashboard which let you set which pluggins ran in which order? I'm almost positive I had to do that for a few pluggins back then.

I have checked out wp-typography & didn't immediately see a problem with it. Would you provide either a link to a page where you're seeing the problem, or some sample text from a post that will reproduce the problem?

One issue here is that reftagger is javascript, which means it does it's stuff in the browser /after/ wordpress is has rendered the page. If wp-typography makes changes server-side during the page render, then there is no way to make reftagger run first-- the only option would be for us to modify reftagger to accept the changes made by wp-typography, which I'll look into if we can get some good test cases.

It looks like wp-Typography inserts soft hyphens at every possible hyphenation point, which apparently not all book names have. Soft hyphens tell the browser where it can break a word at a line ending, and the character is only rendered when the word is wrapped. The extra characters in the middle of the book names is what's breaking reftagger. Support for soft hyphens is a bit spotty & can cause problems in some places, as mentioned in the wp-Typography FAQ.

I'll try to investigate a way to work around this in the future, but I'm afraid there's no quick solution.
