What are they and how are they chosen ?
Is there any prizes for higher number of posts
Are there any places in forum/or resources that are great for study methodology ?
Good morning Garry...
MVP's are nothing more than a few who've been around the forum for quite a while and tend to spend time helping others sort out problems....Logos decided to make them "official helpers" and call them MVP's. They are not any more special than the average Logos user except that maybe they need to get out more! [:D]
There are no prizes for huge numbers of posts....it just goes with the territory... [:D]
As to your third question....I'm not sure what you are asking.....sorry.
These are members of the user community that Logos noticed had been particularly helpful to others. They are designated by a star under their picture. You can see the whole list of all the MVPs by clicking on the star under any one of them.
No. We just joke about post count, but it's essentially meaningless. A lot of the posts of those of us with high post counts are just banter. But all the MVPs do tend to have higher post counts than others, because they tend to be the sorts of people who will jump in and answer anyone's questions. And we've all been around on the user forum for a while, long enough for Logos to notice our contributions.
Fred Chapman has begun to create a Best Practices section of the wiki that will have this sort of thing. He's written a couple of articles for it already and is hoping that other people will contribute some. See the bottom of the Table of Contents (right column of that last table) for the ones that exist so far. I imagine as more are accumulated these will need to move off to their own separate page.
As for resources about good Bible study methodology, it depends on what level of depth you want, and what your current level of experience is. Here are a few recommendations,:
How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth and How to Read the BIble Book by Book by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. This pair of excellent books shows you how to deal with different genres of literature in the various books of the Bible (epistle, poetry, apocalyptic, narrative, etc.)
Bible Study Made Easy by Mark Water. A fairly beginner book. I've only had a cursory look at it (it came with my library) but it looks useful.
Handbook for Bible Study by Grant Osborne and Stephen Woodward. More advanced. Here's the Table of Contents:
The Handbook to Bible Study by Paul S. Karleen
And check out the user-created Logos 4 tutorial videos page. Some of the videos there, while mainly designed to show you how to use Logos, will give some tips about study methodology along the way.
A lot of the posts of those of us with high post counts are just banter.
Maybe we should have a useful post count and a not-so-useful post count for each person... [:)]

And who's going to take the time to vote on whether posts are useful or not, enough to get useful statistics? We can't even get enough people voting on UserVoice and AllOurIdeas.
Note: This was not one of my more useful posts...
Isn't the "usefulness of a post" subjective? My wife likes to buy things at yard sales and is baaically buying something others will throw out if not sold because it is nbo longer useful. Something to consider[:^)]
By the way I only added to this thread to boost my post count.[6][;)]

Ditto.
(see my post count went up by 1)
Hi garry
Thanks for enquiring about MVP's - now you can see how we boost our post count[:)]
Garry,
An interesting follow up query might be: "How many MVP's does it take to respond to a thread?" LOL
Usually a minimum of three because we're all posting at the same time and duplicating each other's efforts. Or like me and at least one other who has admitted it, sometimes we leave a browser tab up for a long time with a barely started answer to a question and then we get distracted. When we come back to finish it, we forget to check if someone else has already answered the question. Now I'd better hurry up and finish this and post it before Philip answers Thomas's question. [:)]

Who me? The Tackie Dogie Fluff Angel?
Yep! That's me. I thought I was one of the few.
I have been lurking in this thread when I realized everyone else was padding their post count, and I was being left in the dust.
Should this thread be considered hijacked at this point. (Post count = +1)[:P]

Not quite. About seven or eight others have yet to check in.
I think Logos has a secret formula sort of like the folks at Coca-Cola. Post count, appeal of one's avatar, number of smilies one uses (or doesn't), and then some where down the line helpfulness of what one contributes could be a few of the ingredients. How it all works out is a mystery to all of us.
I refuse to pad my post count by contributing to this conversation...
oops [:D]
But seriously, when I was invited to be an MVP Phil Gons said someone had recommended me. A couple of months ago when Logos decided to expand the roster of MVPs they emailed the current MVPs to ask who we though had been contributing the most. It seems like they lean heavily on user recommendations in addition to whatever internal rubric they use.

Glad I took a peek at this thread. I needed a good laugh today and you guys came through.

I thought it was bones and chicken livers. [H]
