You'll want to see what just showed up on Twitter:
A mobile app isn't quite what I'm hoping for, but we'll see what they have on it.
With all the Tablet rumors I really hope Logos does get a full native iPhone app going, at least some sort of book reader. If m.logos.com will enable that, great!... so long as it has some way for me to do it when away from a signal.
Mobile would be great. Windows 6.1.
Looks like it's live now... kinda
PLEASE don't tell me this isn't going to work on my blackberry!
Okay, very cool! It does look like it will be a native app. Was worried that the website meant it was just a website designed for the iPhone. That would be nice, but still not quite what I'm hoping for.
http://m.logos.com/ has a few teaser photos.
PLEASE....And it's not that I'm not devoted enough to buy an iPhone...I actually would if it weren't for the AT&T aspect of it. But until iPhone is available for other services, I'm enjoying my blackberry. Please let me enjoy it with Logos.
Ok, new pics up. Does anyone know which resource has 1886 pages?
Hope it works with the LG enV Touch!!!
I'm extremely excited about these possibilities.
Two possibilities come to mind.
One, it's syncing resources, somehow allowing you to copy books to the iPhone. That would be a lot to carry around, but it's possible.
Two, it numbers pages similar to the Amazon Kindle iPhone app where the numbers represent sections or some such rather than actual pages, an easier way to track current position on a device that cannot have pages correspond exactly with the printed book.
Just some thoughts.
Chris
Anyone figure out the 437/1886 reference (I may have gotten the numbers wrong)? Phone number was the only thing I could come up with, but I have no idea.
The area I live in is Alltel dominated and AT&T just bought our portion of Alltel. So iPhones are coming in a few months here, I will just have to wait and see if the monthly cost is worth it for my wife and I.

I'm guessing it's screen 437 of 1886 (but hopefully it's page #...that would be even better. Not including page numbers is a killer in usefulness for the Kindle.
I
Definitely a passage guide (pretty sure it says that in the text in top right). If my eyes aren't deceiving me the commentaries listed are...
The Pulpit Commentary: St. Mark (Vol I)The Bible Knowledge CommentaryA Commentary, critical and explanatory, on the Old and New Testaments
And the image with the "horizontally scrolling list of" resources appears to show...
ESVNA or UBS Greek NTAnother NA or UBS GNTNew Treasury of Scripture KnowledgeAnother NA of UBS GNTKJV
I knew it! Now I see why I felt such a strong urging to trade my MDA Windows Mobile PDA phone for iPhone. Good. I can't wait to try it. If only it comes together with some new Czech Bibles to Logos [:)]
I hope the iPhone picture is just a frame for the windows :-)
It would be better if this were a Web application for any WiFi/Internet -enabled device (including the "big" computer's browser).
Yeah, the original tcblack's post contains a Windows-mobile device, as far as I can see.
Ok sweet! So we're looking at something that holds a Library! Not "just" a bible reader, (can't take anything for granted!)
So- which of these ways do you think (and hope) it will work?:
1. Using our logos accounts it knows which resources you own and if it's on ftp.logos.com: you can access it.
2. Certain publishers are going to allow certain books to everyone who buys the app, a sort of bundle
3. You copy the resource files from your own computer and take them with you.
I'm hoping for 3, which would allow the greatest flexibility, in case something isn't on FTP, and I can access it even without cell/wifi access. 1 would be 2nd best, and the 2nd option will be ok if they went that direction, but I'm hoping for greater resource access! Thoughts? Theories? I keep checking out the page source (teasers like this often hide bits in there) but so far nothing out of the ordinary (except for well commented code!)
Another hint, or completely irrelevant?
Looking in the "About libronix" it says it contains certain code proprietary to AT&T, the iPhone carrier. Anyone know how long that has been there? If there's already code in our base products related to this- it might imply a hook-up with our individual libraries! (though if AT&T is required, then iPod Touch may not get the same functionality?) Or, it could all be completely unrelated....Hmm...
That "AT&T" verbiage has been in the about for a long, long time. I remember seeing it a few years ago.
John
Matt that part of the Eula has been there forever. Well maybe not forever but a long time.
As for how a phone app would work....
considering the current level of processor and available ram on almost any device (ipone included) if it's going to generate passage guides and allow multiple links and readings it's going to have to be serverside - thus webapp. Logos demands much more horsepower than an iphone can handle.
Now if they did this right and made it work on a blackberry that'd be another story. [;)]
Some libraries can be pretty big on Logos, so I have two thoughts.
You select what books you want in your mobile library (kind of like iTunes gives you the option of only putting certain songs from specific playlists on an iPhone).
I am thinking the app may only work with WiFi (kind of like a cloud program). You have to access your library via the internet (or network maybe) via a license number. If so, it can kill data packages.

My guess from the news that has been leaking is that they'll be looking at both of those options......and my hope is that they'll make these options work on both an iPhone and a blackberry.
While it would be nice if Logos ends up opening this up to more phones, for now it seems pretty clear that this is an IPhone app.
http://twitter.com/Logos
Every time Logos mentions it themselves, they call it an IPhone app. The fact that the IPhone is prominently displayed on m.logos.com is also pretty telling. At least one picture displayed on m.logos.com includes touch screen features.
That's not to say this won't broaden out to other smart phones over time (that would be great!), but it seems like the initial offerin will be an IPhone app.
I could be wrong, but that's my thinking so far based on what's been shown.
Maybe it won't be too web-dependent so it'll work on a iPod Touch.
I agree that this definitely appears to be an iPhone app., and not something web-based,.
Having done some iPhone app development myself, if they are indeed developing an iPhone app I would think there will be very little in the way of re-usable code. Apple has made developing for the iPhone pretty easy (as evidenced by the 85,000+ apps published) but it is very iPhone centric. It's not something more standard like Java based development which might be more portable to other platforms... that said one can certainly hope.
Based on what we've seen so far I'm excited. this looks like it could be by far the best bible reader/library for a portable device yet!
[Y] here's hoping
Groan....
I suspect you're right. I fear you're right.
Sigh. Even logos can't make me buy an iphone. Blech!

Well, I used to have a few PDA phones, smartphone, Blackberry, now I have iPhone (I am not Apple fan) but I like iPhone. It is simple and it does what it is supposed to do. With Logos it will gain most of its value, at least for me. Good choice Logos. I think eventually they should go to each platform. Logos is too good to stay only on one platform.
Really looking forward to this for my iPhone. I hope they take a few of the best features from Mantis like History, in text reference quotes for other passages and commentaries, and the planned in App purchases.
I mentioned in my previous post above that AT&T bought Alltel in our area (we are currently limited to Alltel and poor Verizon coverage). While the iPhone is appealing, I am looking for a good tool that is cost effective. My wife and I definately need to go towards a smart phone. She is an ASL interpreter and many of her clients rely on texting. We are looking at each either going with iPhone or Blackberry. My wife and I will both have one or maybe one an iPhone the other a Blackberry. Who knows? I would love to hear some opinions, but that is not my question.
The question some of you may be able to answer is this. The biggest complaint I hear is the monthly cost, realistically what would we be looking at for a monthly bill to have 2 iPhones vs 2 Blackberries? Maybe we are just not informed as to the monthly costs. We can't get any info here yet because it doesn't officially happen till late November or December and Alltel doesn't know or isn't saying.
Feel free to contact me off forum or post here. dbuckham AT gmail DOT com.
I will be quite sad if it doesn't work with my blackberry also.
Looks like it's live now... kinda PLEASE don't tell me this isn't going to work on my blackberry!

The biggest cost will be the requirement of having two data plans on your account, one per phone. I'm currently with T-Mobile with a G1 and it's costing me $35/mo just for the data service. If my wife were to add data to her account, that's $70/mo we'd be spending just to have data/internet on our phones
lj.
The latest teaser graphics (see the one in the top left) imply that it works on a iPod Touch.
The "Ever Been here?" picture looks like something that is (according to Google image search) outside of the Whatcom museum in Bellingham WA. Any idea why that would be in the pictures?
Far right, second from the bottom: Bible Word Study is the blurred text.
Yeah. I guess some of these pictures are more fun pics than hints. Still- if there is a hint in them I don't want to miss it!
Also- I think it's great that they responded to our fears of iPhone only (and not iPod Touch) with one of the pics! I think this app is going to be great for exposing new people to Logos!
Here's another nifty hint from Twitter:
Ahhhh! That's pretty much the final confirmation of what I think many of us have been waiting for: "that lets you view almost any book from your library."
Great news! Thanks for sharing, Chris!
Wow, looks better and better...
Wooo-hooo! Awesome hint!
(oh and the logos team? hilarious. thanks for the shout-out, and I'm going to keep looking!)
on a related note: Does anyone know a book to which Raymond B Dillard contributed? Maybe a Bible Encyclopedia? I'd like to figure it out in the next 24 hours. [8-|]

Did you try a Logos search?
The Evangelical Commentary on the Bible and Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary came up for me.
Thanks! The Anchor Yale isn't in my library. Did Dillard happen to write the entry on Beracah in there?
Yes.
BERACAH (PERSON) [Heb bĕrākâ (בְּרָכָה)]. A kinsman of Saul; one of the ambidextrous warriors from the tribe of Benjamin (1 Chr 12:3). In this list (1 Chr 12:1–8—Eng 12:1–7) the Chronicler is emphasizing the extensive support David enjoyed among Saul’s kin before David became king.

Sweet, thanks!
I hope there is something for those of us who don't have iPod Touch or an iPhone. I have a BlackBerry and am not able to spend 200-400 on an iTouch and don't want an iPhone.
Like you James,
I'm on a two year contract with my blackberry. Beyond that, I'm fairly certain I won't buy an iphone just for Logos. It pains me to miss out on a portable Logos, but I won't.
New pics are up! You've got to love a challenge like finding more hidden sites! There's also going to be a STORE?!? How cool is that? A rating system for books? It's beginning to look like the best parts of iTunes.
Is it possible that there is also something happening for Blackberry?
Unable to take the suspense I sent Bob a tweet...
“@BobPritchett talk about the blackberry app. (you do have one right?) --Twitter / Thomas Black
Three hours later Bob posted a tweet:
“Overheard: Caterer, to servers. "There's a difference between salad forks and entree forks. There is a _physical difference in size_." --Twitter / Bob Pritchett
It may sound innocuous but if you read several of Bob's tweets, it's not quite the same. I'm hopeful that it's a veiled reference to something blackberryish happening. Something that is just a different size than the Iphone app.
<hmmm... how skinney is this limb I'm standing on?>
You guys at Logos are having way to much fun with this.
