Lists of Verses

General question. I have been using Accordance on the Mac, and one of the things I like about is having a window open with five different translations visible, and then typing a LIST of verses (e.g., Matt 12:1-5; Romans 3:10-12; Heb 12:1-2) and having them all cope up in all the translations at the same time.

How to accomplish this in Logos 4? I know you can have a similar window open in verse comparison, but it (apparently) doesn't accept more than one verse.

It does accept more than one verse at a time, but not more than one passage at a time.

The passage list window will allow you to add a list of verses and select which translations you want to view them in.

(I know, it's the Windows version. But the Mac should work the same.)

Actually, the Passage List is a "document", rather than just a "window" (I should have been more clear). So verses are added to the list document as you enter them in the field (whether one at a time or as a comma-separated list), and the document is saved automatically with the title at the top of the page. If you want to change the verses displayed, you'll have to delete them from the list, or start a new document. (I.e., it's not like the Text Comparison window which changes based on what's currently entered in the entry field)

Just fyi, when I prepare a lesson, I jot down a bunch of references in my notes. When I'm ready to type the lesson in Word I open the Accordance window and just type in every reference from my notes all at once, and that lets me copy and paste them easily, in whichever translation I choose. I usually end up adding or deleting several of the references, and it's easy to do - just change the list and hit Enter again.

I feel sure that, with a couple of tweaks in my process, this will work. If not, it's not a big deal to just keep Accordance open as well.

If you're preparing your lesson away from the computer, then I can see that method.

But if you're at the computer while you do it, I would suggest having a Passage List open, and add them to the list as you discover them--especially if you're using Logos to study the passage. In fact, you can select a passage in the Bible window, right click on it, and select "Add to Passage List" to get it there without typing (assuming the Mac version works like the Windows version).

Mark, after reading your last post, I thought that it might be helpful for you to know that you can also type in multiple passages into the Copy Bible Verses tool. It limits you to one version at a time, but you can switch versions without re-typing all your references.

It depends on the width of the window. I think it's automatic. Make the window float by itself, and maximize it.

You can copy an individual verse out of a passage list in the mac beta if you right click the verse link (last time I checked), but you cannot copy ALL the verses, or even a selection of verses. Copy Bible Verses works, but I would like to be able to park verses I come across while studying in a passage list (Usually using the "add from selection" command as I'm reading through another resource; very handy), and then copy them over into a Word Document for later review and processing.

I agree, of course. When I'm ready to bring the verses I've chosen into my Word document, I like to copy them mostly from one translation (usually ESV), but I might want to copy a few individual verses using different translations. For my particular way of doing things (which is just MY way, not the RIGHT or ONLY way), the Accordance window is perfect. But I'd rather stay in Logos.

1 - I could not get ANY verses from the Passage List to copy, individual or otherwise.

2 - The Windows Passage list displayed the multiple translations side-by-side. I can not get the Mac version to do this (they're stacked), even with a maximized window and only two translations.

Finally I see what you are doing and what is wrong. Seems you have stumbled into a bug. When the resources used is changed the "Full" verse view goes away and all that is left is the citation. I'm going to post a case about this and see what happens. Thanks for pointing this out by the way.

With that said. In Windows I copied the information from the Passage List in full view and with the panel made wide enough to support columns. I copied the text and attempted to paste it in to both Word and Pages. The formatting seen in the panel does not stay true when pasted into a word processor So if pasting and printing with that format style is your goal than that is not yet possible on the Windows version and will not--unless the Windows version changes--be possible on the Mac.

I can only speak for me and the way I tend to do things. I usually "Paste Unformatted" in Word so the verses match the formatting I'm already using in the document, so that's not an issue.

One of the main problems with the Passage List on the Mac side right now is that it is (apparently) incapable of displaying the translations side-by-side.
