Adding a new 3.0 book to Logos 4

Hi all,

I'm a new user with Logos 4 (I've never owned any previous versions). I purchased Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics which is a 3.0 cd-rom. I called customer service to make sure I would be able to add this to Logos 4. She said to call back when I received the cd to activate it.

I have the cd now, and have sat on hold twice now for quite some time. Is there any way to get this book into Logos 4 without going through customer support? Can I just install it from the cd? (The readme.doc on the disc says it's for Libronix 1.1 -- I have no idea, but that sounds...really old?)

P.S. I don't see a serial number or activation code on the package or the disc... Seems like that would be a problem if they need to activate the book on their end?

I just activated my first resources from CD. Mine did not have a serial number either but the CS rep was able to generate one and my materials downloaded the next time I loaded Logos. I am not sure why we even get the CDs since we don't use them but I trust Logos.

If it is 1.1 (incredible if true) then you will need to call CS.

Chad if you use messenger, add jared at logos.com to your list or just email him with the serial number, your name and the email address you use in Logos. He is a great guy, and very efficient at getting things done. It always helps to know one of the CSR, when ordering products. They can give you a great price too. [H]

Sorry for the wait time you experienced when you were on hold with Customer Support earlier. The Serial Number for Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics is an embedded Serial Number, meaning that you will not need to enter a Serial Number for this product. For simplicities sake, I activated the Serial Number to your account for you. If you do not yet have Libronix installed, click here for the steps for how to install Libronix. Make sure to follow steps 1 & 2 on that page carefully. However ,if you do have Libronix installed already, I will need to make sure you are running the latest version. To determine what version you are running, go to Help > About Libronix DLS and in there you will see the words Libronix Digital Library System followed by a 2-digit number. If that number is 2.1b or below, we will need to uninstall and reinstall Libronix by following the steps here. If the number listed there is 2.1c up to 3.0f, we will need to update your system by following the steps here. If the number is 3.0g, then you are running the latest version of Libronix. In this same window, you should see a Customer ID listed as well. If there is not a Customer ID listed, let me know as I will need to email you your codes. Since these codes are specific to you, I do not want to post them here.

After we make sure that you are running the latest version and that you have the correct Customer ID, we then need to get your computer to recognize that the Serial Number has been activated, make sure that you are connected to the internet, then go to Tools > Library Management > Synchronize Licenses, click Next, and this will get all the necessary codes on your computer. When this is complete, open Logos 4 (if it is not open already, if it is open, close and reopen it), and it should start to download the books associated with Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics. If you want to access these books in Libronix, follow the steps below for how to do so.

Close Libronix
Insert the Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics disc
Open Libronix
Look for the words Discovering Resources in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, right above where the computer tells the time.
When those words disappear, go to Tools > Library Management < Location Manager.
Make sure List Resources says "Unlocked on Removable Media" and the Destination says "C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources. (If you are running a 64-bit system, the path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS\Resources).
Wait until the list has finished generating and click Copy Resources.
When copying is finished, you will see the message "All Unlocked Resources have been copied to your Hard Drive."

I know there is probably a reason but why is this process in place? Is there a reason that we can't opt to just go into our account online and tell it to send it to Logos 4? It would save a lot of us from having to contact you and keeps us from getting confused with the Libronix steps. I know that you all are able to just force it to go to Logos 4 (as was the case with my IVP Essential Reference Collection). I'm not trying to be difficult just trying to understand if there is a way that we could free you all up and make the process a little less confusing (plus to be honest I don't care about getting CD's and waiting two days to get my files [:D] )

What is Libronix?

Libronix is the name for Logos version 3.0. It can be run stand-alone. Almost all your 4.0 resources will run under 3.0. Most people do not need to run both 3.0 and 4.0. Some features of 3.0 are not yet in 4.0 so those who had it installed in the past may have kept it running on their computers.

The answer right now is No to both. Logos is yet to move to a download only delivery method. For some reason there are still resources that are CD only. I don't know why there has not been a download option added to them. It means paying for postage for something you don't need in 4.0 and having to take the step of calling CS to get the license for the product activated. Those who run 3.0 might use the disc to unlock their license through 3.0 rather than call CS.

Glad to hear everything is working! Libronix was released in 2001 and was the precursor to Logos 4. For example, it is like how Windows Vista was released and then Windows 7. Since the release of Logos 4, we are transitioning into making our products available by download only instead of CD and download as it was with Libronix. If a book you are wanting to purchase comes by CD only, that means that it most likely is a Libronix product. One of the main reasons to get the CD is if you wanted to use the books in Libronix as well as if you needed to install the software on a computer that did not have the internet, you can use that disc to get the resources onto the computer.

Before Logos 4 came out, everything was sold on CD's and sometimes by download. Now that Logos 4 has been released, we are transitioning to selling things by download only instead of CD & download. Since Logos 4 was just released in November, not all products have been transitioned to download. In regards to IVP, this is a product that is not produced by us, so it is their decision to have the product still available on CD. We hope that every product we sell will be available by download eventually, but right now we are still selling products by CD and Download.

I'm not Deborah nor am I able to answer officially for Logos. I think what you are seeing is a result of trying to maintain two platforms: 3.0 and 4.0. The ability to unlock a CD-only resource in 4.0 is needed. So far we haven't heard that Logos plans to implement this.

There should be a 'download' option for all resources. This hasn't been brought up-to-date either. You have to pay for the CD you don't want.

You can imagine the headache this is for those 12 time zones away from Bellingham, WA or those who have to pay overseas postage and duties for something they neither need nor want. It is a Customer Service issue and I don't personally understand why it hasn't been taken care of.

Mark it may have to do with the publisher. Logos had to get permission to put books on the iphone and Biblia.com. I think the same thing applies to downloadable books. Wish everything was available via download. Keep the cds for those whom downloading is not practical.

I appreciate this is frustrating, and appears a rather messy process for users particularly if they have not used Libroinx 3 or don't currently have it installed. But I for one am grateful that we can access these resources, even with the frustrating process involved.

I wonder if this is always the answer? A lot seems to be assumed in this satetment about other publishers and Logos and their relationship which none of us would seem to be privy to.

Logos has the files for these resources on their servers. They download them all the time. They just don't have a way for us to buy them by download.

Certainly your point would be the case with resources produced by another publisher who has not agreed to let the resources be downloaded. However we don't know for certain any publisher has said this.We do know that the majority, if not all, resources published by Logos' partners are only available on CD. Has Logos approached these partners and done all it can to get permission to offer them via download? Again, we don't know. We do know this is a CS issue and that having no way to unlock these titles directly in 4.0 is a problem for many, especially those a long way from Bellingham. The issue comes up frequently on the forum. The only current way to avoid a CS call is to install 3.0, sync licenses, then wait for the 4.0 download. That isn't onerous, but there could be a more direct way

Note the following screen shot from Galaxie Software the publishers of the OP's resource. Galaxie allows you to download the resource or buy a CD. Logos does not. Is this because Galaxie won't let them or because Logos hasn't asked or hasn't taken action? One way or another Logos should address this issue either by making everything available through them available by download or by providing a way through Logos 4 or through their web site to unlock CD-only resources.

Yes it is correct you can often download the file, but to get the license logos has said in the past some publisher's are reluctant to allow you to unlock it via the internet. They feel it is more secure if you have to have a CD and enter in an activation code. Now I don't see the logic in that thought and Logos 4 is actually more secure in that users can not back up license keys and re-import them direclty from the program interface.

The point you raise with Wallace resource is an interesting situation, particuarly given we can now unlock and download the galaxie journals, but question is did resources like this one get included in the discussion between galaxie and logos ? None of us can answer why this speficific case exists and so I can respond with the general case scenario logos has suggested occurs in the past. That said if someone wanted to download and unlock overline from Logos I do agree with you they should contact Logos Customer service and see if there is way around this scenario.

I am one of the ones that asked them about this. They said its CD-only, with no plans to change!

My position is that I will not pay US$25 for a disk I dont actually need or want, so I will not buy such a product!!!

(I will of course make an exception for a high-value item I really want/need. For example SESB 4 in 2011, if its a boxed product. V3 here.)
