Accessibility Category Not In My Program Settings

I'm wanting to change the background color of panels and I read some Forum entries on how to do this through Program Settings, then going to Accessibility, but when I open Program Settings, that option is not visible. Mine has: General, Bible, Fonts, Notes, Transliteration Format, Hidden Resources.

Should this be available in Logos 4 Mac? The Forum entries I read earlier were in this Forum, so that led me to believe I should find it.

Any suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that Program Scaling was introduced but then had to be removed.

I don't know whether this will change in the future.

Resource Panel Background not been implemented on Mac - for grins, compared Mac Beta 6 Program Settings with PC 4.1 Beta 1 (and verified PC 4.1 Beta 7 has same list - had not used PC 4.1 virtual machine for a month so shortcuts sync missing):

By the way, Apple has limited system wide program scaling: in System Preferences - Displays, can set resolution to smaller value so everything is magnified. Also, System Preferences has Universal Access settings with adjustable Display contrast:

I think you must be mistaken 'Program Settings' is a Windows terms. Mac programmes tend to use 'Preferences'.

KS4J has pointed you to the System Preferences.

Although there was a failed (or too troublesome) attempt at Program Scaling which was removed there has never been an option to change the background colour of the panels.

I'll find out what the plan for the resource background setting is. Program scaling is non-trivial due to the fact that many of Apple's native UI controls do not readily support it, and will not be a part of our initial release version.

Strictly speaking, "Program Settings" is a Logos 4 term. Windows apps in general are all over the map on this one, with many using "Preferences" or "Options" (usually found under the "Tools" menu) or other names as well.

It's also the title of the tab of Logos 4 Mac's not-so-Mac-like panel for changing the various application preferences. It's available under the application menu via the label "Preferences" but is also available via Tools -> Program Settings. So Jim is most assuredly *NOT* mistaken. "Program Settings" is a valid moniker for the item to which he is referring.

Both items do exactly the same thing so, there isn't really any maintenance headache. It's under the Tools menu because that's where it is in Windows, and someone trained on Windows may not know both idioms.

We have some interesting challenges with the Mac product that many Mac software teams don't have to deal with. Our multi-platform strategy includes as one of its goals that users should be able to move between Windows (at the church office, perhaps) and Mac (at home, perhaps?) without losing their bearings. That means that we handle some items differently than we might if we were developing for one and only one platform.

For many passionate Mac users, our handling of Preferences and Software Updates borders on heresy (Mac zealotry often seems like an almost religious endeavor). Having been a zealous Mac user and evangelist since 1994, I can sympathize. In the past 10 years, I've used Windows as my primary OS in any context (home or work) for a cumulative total of about 11 months.

No one wants Logos 4 Mac to feel familiar to long-time Mac users than I do. I promise. But I must keep in mind that no matter how noble that goal may be, it isn't a trump card. For now, compromises like this will remain—primarily in the interest of delivering sooner-than-later a product to Mac users that is already (even in its beta state, bugs and all) an order of magnitude improvement over its predecessor (Libronix 1.2.2).

But I do think that this particular 'goal' may be unnecessary, and even counter productive. The obtaining of a Mac, I would have thought, is a personal decision to get away from the particular difficulties of running a safe windows machine.

Having done that if the other programs on a mac run one way Logos will seem oddly out of place. Many users here are heaving a sigh of relieve as they consign the windows version of Logos to the the Trash Bin.

Ok some will be stuck with Windows at work but have a Mac at home. I doubt that it will often be the other way round! But those in this position have chosen the Mac way of doing things deliberately to get away from the Windows way of doing things.

It may sound like 'religious endeavour' but it is really a request to honour the choice the customer has made and not to second guess what they really wanted.

Personally glad Logos has a multi-platform strategy with easy transition. Also Thankful for Logos 4 availability and usability on many devices.

On a variety of platforms, have used several ways to accomplish same task (sometimes needed alternate method when primary not working - e.g. mouse failure).

My Mac usage experience predates Windows being viable for Greek and Hebrew language study (font display and typing direction). Over the years, Apple has shipped many "insanely great" items - hoping and praying for Logos to be "insanely great" for Bible Study - encouraged by Logos 4 progress.

I have used Mac since the early 90's and was forced to use Windows for a variety of church ministry/pastoral jobs over the years. Now, working for Logos, ]I meet pastors every week who are in this situation running both a PC and Mac for a variety of reasons so it is not that unusual based on my experience meeting dozens of church leaders every week.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Logos is being used by many seminary and Bible School programs where a professor is teaching students who are using both platforms. The multi-platoform strategy is helpful in these situations. Training students to study Greek, for example, is easier if a professor does not have to offer 2 dramatically different sets of instructions to students who are on PC or Mac.

For whats its worth, that is my experience brother.

I think this pretty much nails the principle behind it. This expands to training and support, also. We have a number of usage scenarios that are important for us to consider beyond the private individual using the software in isolation on their platform of choice. Additionally, there are a number of reasons to choose Mac, many of which don't include explicit opposition to Windows. For instance, my children don't use Macs because they hate Windows; they use Macs for the same reason that most people who use Windows use Windows—namely, it's what is provided for them.

Don't lose hope or heart, Mike. Know that we care about Mac users (even the zealots, like myself) and we don't make any decision to compromise out of some kind of institutional ignorance or indifference to the wants/needs of Mac users.
