We live in the best of times!

No the title isn't an eschatological statement.

I'm referring to the fact that in the past year or two we have not only seen Logos 4 released (and it's companion iPhone/iPad applications) but we have seen an abundance of commentaries published that had been requested for years.

I think of:

The Anchor Yale Bible

Hermeneia

ICC

NICOT/NICNT

Tyndale

Baker Exegetical

Pillar

Black's

and now the re-release of Barclay's DSB and the Interpretation Comentary.

We have NIDOTTE and NIDNTT from Zondervan as well as other works we've long wanted from them.

There are new journals, dictionaries, theologies, individual monographs, collections of many authors, and lots more. In fact there's almost too much.

Thank you Bob and the Logos staff for making these dreams of ours a reality. You have worked hard to bring us the best and so much of what we've asked for. For Logos users this is the best of times!

I think of...

It is amazing when one thinks about it. I can remember years ago when someone gave me a copy of the Matthew Henry Commentary. It was my first "real" commentary, other than one or two Bible handbooks I had already owned.

Never in all my dreams did I think that I would ever have such a vast library of resources at my fingertips. Not to mention the ability to research all of them in a few minutes.

If you spent it on Logos resources, wouldn't you be righted on the money? However, if your wasted your money on non-essentials like housing, food, and clothing, then you would be wronged. [8-|]

I managed a Christian bookstore for 10 years and was a publishers rep for 12. I remember how often I worked with customers helping them get started with selecting tools for Bible study. It was a real joy. There was great satisfaction from doing that.

I never had the broad selection of reference works available on the store shelves for my customers that are now in my own Logos library.

The real value of Logos is how quickly every reference is available on my screen.

I am producing handouts weekly in my SS class that would have never been possible otherwise. Joy and satisfaction.

My Sunday School class has learned to appreciate the benefits of Logos.

As I sat at the Morris Proctor training seminar last month, seeing the power of the L4 electronic library, I whispered to one of my co-workers, "There's no excuse for being stupid anymore!"

We are only limited by our imagination and the amount of time we are willing to invest. Even the cost of resources isn't a true limitation, as we all probably all have more resources than we have time to use.

And bottom line, I'm reminded of the words of Jesus: "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." I am blessed and want to learn in the hope to be a blessing. I'm thankful for the wonderful tools I have been entrusted with.

I am just using cut and paste to produce my own handouts.

For example, over the last 3 years I have produced my own customized line by line Harmony of the Gospels. I highlight the unique material from each account and dnderline the variations. I start with selecting material from one of the harmonies in Logos, line up each phrase, highlight and underline, print out and teach from a page at a time. The class has a copy in front of them to follow along.

I am looking forward to the addition of printing in Logos 4.
