having issues with logos4

For some reason, I cannot get my logos 4 to run on my Win7 64bit laptop. When I tried to load it the first time, the internet disconected in the middle of the night. I have tried to open it/ load it several times since then. Once, I saw the indexing icon, which said I had three minutes left, so I waited awhile and tried to open it, and it didn't do anything. I got logos open once, but there weren't any books or anything in it. And I saw the "downloading" screen once, which I left up for several hours, but the bar didn't move at all. What do I do? I need it for class this next week.

Logos4 will run on Win7 64bit. I'm doing so right now on my desktop system.

Enable diagnostic logging following the directions here, then post your logs and we'll see if we can help you get going.

It may also help to post your system specifications: CPU speed/type; system RAM; size of HD and amount of free space; Video card (& amount of video RAM).

The downloading screen can take a very, very long time. And even if it looks like it's not doing anything, it might be. Many people set up their system to run overnight (if you do, set up your laptop NOT to go into sleep or hibernation mode).

If we can't get you going by Monday at about 6am PST, call tech support (the 800 number, along with the current PST, is on the logos.com web site's default page).

Devin, this sounds like an incomplete or damaged install. Try uninstalling Logos 4 and the Logos 4 Prerequisites using Control Panel. Then enable diagnostic logging (see: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging).

If you have Logos 4 running on another machine you may want to try to save time installing it to your laptop. Check: http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers for some options.

If you get a subsequent crash, lock-up, failure, or significant amount of time with nothing seeming to go on, zip up your log files and post them here.

Okay, system specs that I could find: intel core i5 cpu m520 @ 2.4GHz; RAM-4.00GB (3.86 usable). That's all I could find in my control panel. I'll go ahead and say this, I'm not a very skilled person with computers, so I don't know where to find the other things.

No problem. You have a pretty new machine so the amount of disk space is probably fine. You can find out by clicking on the 'Start' button on the lower left hand side of your screen and select 'Computer' from the right hand panel. That will open a pane showing your disk drive, its capacity, and free space.

If you haven't set up diagnostic logging you will need to do so. Rich and I gave you the link to the information on how to do this.

1. Uninstall both Logos 4 and Logos 4 Prerequisites again from the Control Panel.

2. Set up diagnostic logging.

3. Try reinstalling from the Internet.

4. Upload your log files by using the paper clip icon on the message compose form here.

Okay, I just loaded it twice and tried to log it both times, and I can't find anything in My Documents that says anything about logos.

"To turn on logging, hold down the CTRL key as you start Logos 4; this will turn on logging for that session. (It will also permit you to open to a blank layout) Log files are written to (My) Documents\Logos Log Files"

I'm not sure what it means by "as you start Logos 4", but after it installs on my computer I can't open it.

Devin, please go back and turn on logging permanently. Look for the section on the wiki page that looks like this and follow those directions:

Then start over with Logos and attach the files to your next posting.

I did that, and still there is nothing in My Documents.

Devin, if you tried to install Logos after turning on diagnostic logging and there is no file in My Documents then I suspect diagnostic logging was not switched on. It creates an installation file, so if you don't see that after trying to install, diagnostic logging isn't installed.

From the Internet to be sure you have the latest version. Go here:

If you continue to have trouble you may want to call Customer Support in the morning.

It will not open. I click on the icon, the "Logos Bible Software" box shows up in the midlle of my screen for a few seconds, and then goes away.

Here are the other files:

Devin,

It seems that Logos is having trouble logging you in. Please try the following:

Hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the Logos icon. Continue to hold the CTRL key down until this pop-up appears:

It should have the email address of your Logos account and the password for your account listed (the password won't actually show, just some asterisks). Verify that these two are correct.

Now try working offline. Click on that box. See if Logos will now open. Upload the Logos4.log file in either event.

If you can get Logos to work offline then you may have the wrong login information on this panel and need to correct it.
